I have one of these useless fireplaces that came with my manufactured home. I am wanting to put an amazablaze insert in it. Do I need to run that stainless steel 3 inch pipe the entire length of the chimney or just how long does it need to be... thanks for your input.

I put one in my mobile home 2 years ago and love it i burn pellets cheaper than corn.
What i did was remove the fire place left the mantle and i put the pipe aproxemently 10-12 inch up the original Pipe.
But as where the old pipe was above your stove i bought a cap for it and cut a hole in the cap to fit the new pipe. This will stp and back draft if there would be any also you would loose a lot of air if you did not. You want to also make sure that you get return air from the bottom of your home. Make sure to install correctly or you insurance will be valid. I burn a bag a day to heat my home.

I had a pellet stove in a mobile home. It could keep the entire home as warm as I wanted. The only trouble I had was if the furnace wasn't running enough, I had trouble with pipes freezing. Otherwise, it was cheap heat.

I bought a pellet stove several years ago and put it in front of the fireplace and covered over the fireplace opening with asbestos board (yep, still got some of that stuff) and cut a 4 inch round hole in the board. The stove pipe ran about 10 inches through the board and just vented horizontally into the blocked off fireplace. It had very good draw and there were no problems with such a hookup. I think I would recommend that the fireplace be well closed off in order to have such a setup. I suppose nowadays one would have to be concerned whether or not the fire insurance would cover such a setup...but it sure was cozy all winter!

what are you paying for pellets? around here, if you can by corn from a farmer directly, corn is cheaper than pellets
