New clutch wear in period??

Hey folks,
just had a clutch set put in my vehicle (less than 200 miles on it). Is it normal that I have some smell after working it a little (pulled the empty horse trailer @ 800 kg today)? Or should I be back at the shop?

Thanks,

Dave

I wouldn't think you would get any "clutch" smell. All the surfaces should have been cleaned and degreased on the flywheel and pressure plate so there shouldn't be anything there to burn off. Could what you were smelling be some grease or oil burning off of the exhaust from them working on it? Pulling the trailer would cause your exhaust to be a little hotter than normal. Just a thought.

I wouldn't think so...
In that kind of mileage, anything like oil or penetrant that might have been on the exhaust should be burnt off too.
Something doesn't sound right. If it got a new disc, pressure plate and had the flywheel cut, it shouln't be making smoke... It should grip tightly, not slip unless you're riding the clutch.

DAVE , It could be your brakes smelling and wanting attention , Check trailer and truck after a short trip .if the atmosphere is foggy and damp (you are in Germany ) ,Right ? , Oders will travel strangely from the origin , and can be misleading .. THAT IS of Course , If Your clutch seems to be acting right .. Case -I -Point . My sons had a small lock washer stuck between Clutch plate and pressure plate ,, ,, Musta laid clutch plate on work bench where greasey washer adhered itself to clutch plate , And in to the 76 Ford it went ,,, strangest acting Clutch I ever Drove, Nearly had to start the motor in gear ...They did not mind taking it back apart to see what was wrong ..

Depends on the vehicle. A lot of these smaller ones have less clutch than needed and will smoke if you slip it a little.
