oil sensor question

Working on my dads generator, Tecumseh 10hp.

It quits running after 10 minutes. No spark. Let it sit for a 5-10 minutes, fires right up, then same thing.

There are only three wires.
1. ground
2. pos. to coil
3. oil sensor.

Coil checks good for resistance. (primary and secondary)
Anyone know what the reading should be on the oil sensor? Never dealt with ones of these yet.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know the spec yo're looking for on that oil sensor circuit, but can tell you that Tecumsehs are QUITE sensitive about it on anything but level ground. Friend's dad had a 10 hoss in a Coleman branded generator, and the only sass it's ever given him was on the oil sensor when he tried runnin' it on a cant when it was a little low.

A little more info.

Checked gas, flow, tank is vented ok.

Oil level is dead perfect on dipstick.

You can disconnect the oil sensor wire under the fan shroud and run it to tell if the sensor is what"s giving trouble. The sensor grounds out the magneto coil go stop the engine.

regardless of your impedance tests it sure sounds like coil or pickup is heating up and opening a circuit...a lil icewater poured on igniton module immediately after it dies should tell you whats up if it starts up quicker.

Had the same problem with a sprayer, disconnected the oil sensor and it runs fine. Problem solved. Just remember to check the oil level, like the old days.

Thanks for the info.
I will be working on it again this weekend. I made a jumper so I can ground out the coil to shut it off, and run it with the oil sensor disconnected.

If that dont work, I will look at the coil.

I'll hopefully update next week.
