My Dad's Buick shifts real hard after it warms up. Does anyone have any ideas if this is anything to worry about and is it possible to soften the shifts without tearing it apart?

Thanks in advance to all you experts

You Guys are great!

Your best bet before trying things, Is there any trouble lights showing in the dash, also check the fluid level,--if there is a troublelight showing then get it decoded to see if it has anything todo with the transmission. If the trans level it low then top it up and see if this makes a difference.

Also check the motor mounts to make sure they aren't letting the motor slam back and forth during shifting.

If you scan the codes, you'd probably find a "max adapt and long shift code" caused by a bad pressure control solenoid.Side valve body cover has to come off to replace.

I just went thru that on a 2000 Buick LeSabre. On long trips after driving around 100-200 miles it would start shifting way too hard. You could shut it off and let it cool down and it would shift fine for awhile.

For $340 a local tranny man replaced the pressure control solenoid.I took a 1200 mile trip right after that and its worked great ever since then.
