i know this is off topic but our little dog passed away friday had to have him put to sleep.we went out thursday afternoon to hang a field gate along with our other 5 dogs just unloaded the gate off the trailor about 5 minuets went by we were getting things ready when we heard him whimpering softly and when we turned around he was draggng both back legs.dont know if one of the other dogs ran into hm or what.we took him to the local vet where they thought maybe he had a chance to be fixed so we took him 11/2 hours away to med vet in columbus ohio where they determined his injury was not able to be fixed his spinal cord was injured and he had nerve damage.he was a long haired chihuhu named lucky we got him two years ago at a dog rescue center and right away he bonded very strongly toward me only.he was the only dog i ever seen that would actually smile at you he would show his little teeth at you when we came home at night.his favorite position was on my left shoulder with his two front leggs hanging over my shoulder and his little head next to my ear.so this was the position i held him in when they put him to sleep.he was one of those i in a million special little dogs this was one of the hardest things i ever had to do in my life when it comes to pets.thanks for reading this i hope i didnt bore anyone with this long post thanks for reading RICK

Doesn't matter if you have one or 20, they all have their own personality and make an impression (and leave a hole when they're gone).

Take care,

Dave

Sorry to hear about your dog. I know the pain. We had to have a 14-year-old Lab put down a few years ago. I have three beagles and an English setter and they all have unique personalities and are very special to me. Wouldn't trade any of 'em.

Rick,
You gave your little friend 2 great years that the rescue center could never have done. He had a great life with you for sure.

My Border Collie Riley was with me for 9 years. The day after he died I found a Border Collie pup named Gus.Gus kept me busy with house breaking. No time to be sad.Gus loves to ride in my truck. There are plenty of dogs that need a good home. While it is hard to lose a dog the time they spend with you is priceless.

Sorry to hear of it. The only problem with the little buddies is that they don't live 30 or 40 years.

Sorry for the loss ,,,KNOWN alot of cherished dogs, currently just left December Multi/mixed / predominant Golden Retriever out for the days rounds . Sara insists That We let her in the house on cold or wet nites , artheritis pains , She was a stray that was run over as a halfgrown Pup in 1999 ,..Son Micah saw it all and scooped Her up and took her to vet..It was a cold rainy day in December ,Hence the name

It's hard. They become family members.

Knowing the short time they're with us, that sometimes motivates me to spend a little extra time playing with the ones still here.

My daughter's dog was hit by a car over a week ago. She appearred to be ok that night. For six days she could not get up on she back legs. Twice, I was going to dig a hole for her, and both times she appearred to be better. She can now walk about six feet before she needs to stop and rest. I swear she smiles at me too.

This site would not let me post my message about her. I still wonder if she will be well enough to handle the cold weather. I did not know I cared this much about her.

Sorry to hear. It's always hard to loose a dog that's bonded so strongly with you. My wife and I both have our dogs, and despite their not-so-great qualities, we wouldn't trade them for the world.

My sympathy goes out to you and your family. It never ceases to amaze me how we get so attached to animals no matter how long they are with us.
We lost 3 this year, it's been a tough year.

Above is Lucy. She was out in the road and my wife nearly hit her, but she pulled into a parking lot and called her and she jumped in the car. We spent several weeks trying to find the owners amd finally decided to give her away. The folks that took her returned her a few days later because they had a little boy that kept throwing things at the dog. We had her about 14 years. She was actually very friendly, but she didn't like cameras for some reason hence the look in the picture.

Above is Leo, he was also found wandering the streets as a small puppy. Owners were never found so I decided to keep him as a guard dog. Turns out his looks was about the only part of guard dog in him, this was the most sweet natured red Chow I had ever seen. When we moved 6 years ago I decided to leave him with my father-in-law as I was concerned with his well being in the heat we have here in far South Texas. Earlier this year he had to put him down due to cancer.

And above is a picture of Sandy, my best buddy for the last 6 years or so. She just showed up one day hungry and scared of anything that moved. We think she was abused and then dumped and fortunatly for her and us this was the place she had been looking for. No idea of her age, just that after a few months she became the most devoted friend I've ever had (human or animal).

I am sure sorry for your loss. My little buddy is a 10 year old cocker. She loves everybody especially children and loves to ride with me. She had a growth on her back and the vet thought it was just a cyst however it turned out to be cancer. It is aggressive and will probably go to the lungs. Presently she seems to be doing okay. I dread the day we have to put her to sleep. We will have her cremated and she will be buried with me.

Since men , tractors and dogs are inseperable , this isn't "off topic" at all and I would only hope it doesn't get deleted. Each of mine that I've had to have "helped out" so to speak , have also been in my arms at the time. There is no other way to have it.When the time comes , Rick , there are many more at the rescues just waiting for someone like you.

Rick, sorry to hear of what you had to do. I know this is very hard to do, as we have had to do it more times than I want to count to our four legged friends. Out there somewhere is another dog that needs a home. Stan

So sorry for the loss of your pal. !!!!!Each pal like yours is a GIFT FROM GOD> make no mistake they have a soul. Loving kindness and a warm place and a meal is whats required for them to survive. Love and affection is the other thing they give back in return. Now from the posts on this subject shows the kindness offered to the Pals. Sure is a blessing to have had the experience of their companionship for how ever long they live with us. we've lost a lot of pals and the pal we have now is spoiled beyond recognition,Has all the traits of the past pals and in addition has some of his own. I'm sure there is more love in your heart to share with another pal that will show up in your life.
Again my sympathy and sorry for the loss of your pal. Ps. this is a picture of our current pal that no one wanted, Look What they missed!!

Rick;
Sorry to hear of your loss. We have a house full of Chihuahuas and I know how we mourn the loss of one of them when the time comes.
Here's our latest...one week old today.

How sad. I hope you feel better eventually. We got two and no children. These are our kids , Gus and Winston , two beautiful Brittanies. We lost our last two to old age in '05. I swear I thought I would have to take my wife to counseling. Finally two new puppies helped heal her some.Famous closing argument made in court here a 100 years or so ago. The man's dog had been shot and the lawyer talked about the special affection and loyalty a hound has."...when all other friends desert he remains." George Graham Vest was the attorney.Check it out on the web. It's a great tribute to all dogs.

Hey there Rick;
I can feel your pain, I know it well. After my"Pal" had to be put down (inoperable tumor),
I thought I would never care for any other dog again, till my wife brought little puppy (2 1/2 lbs) "Charlie" home. He had a case of tape-worm that he wouldn't have survived, but he's about 9 mos old now,and he is one of those one in a million guys. I know they have souls, and I think "Charlie" is an four legged Angel.
Bob
God Bless

i can't image what it will be the day my yellow isn't here.
we 've only had him about a year he makes me mad with habit of getting sprayed by skunks. right now he is laying with his face in hot air register. he likes riding in truck chasing cats and skunks rolling in fresh cow pies.
we have 2 dogs rennie and zoe about 20 cats.
at least with a dog you can bury them we have had so many disappear never to be seem again mrs 730 gets pretty upset about some on them as is seems to be the ones she likes the best that never return.

Rick,

Please accept my sympathies, and know I really am sorry for the loss of your friend. We lost two of ours in just a few days about eighteen months ago. The first, a fourteen year old Chocolate Lab, was sent to heaven, with the help of our vet. She was just to old and crippled up to go through another summers heat. The second, my eighteen month old English Shepherd cow dog, was hit on the road by a neighbor, and thankfully died within minutes. I've always loved and enjoyed every dog we've ever had, but honestly didn't think I could become so attached to one as I had that one. I still get choked up and teary eyed thinking about certain moments I had with that dog. I did get and start another cow dog pup, closely related to the first one, a short time after. But despite the fact that I love him too, and he's actually making a better cow dog than the first one, he'll never replace her, or the relationship we had. And as others here have stated, I believe too that they truly do have souls, and truly do go to heaven. How can they give us so much unconditional love, and not go to be with God, when they leave us? I've no doubt, they're there, smiling and wagging their tails, waiting for our arrival. :)

...I'm sorry to read of your loss.
...It's a very hard thing to go through and it breaks your heart to lose such a devoted friend and companion.
...They only want your love, and to be taken care of, we as people need to remember that a pet is incapable of committing any sin unlike the owners are.

...There has never been a dog or cat or any other animal that has died and gone to hell.

...Too many so called men and women have no compassion for anything as loyal and devoted as all of our pets deserve to be treated.

...God bless you and the memory you will carry with you forever of your great little friend that will never leave your heart.
