Any one going to work on corn harvest yet?

Gonna take some sample today. Very few beans getting taken down due to the cool fall and recent 5 inches or rain. If the moistures right I am gonna start, fill my contracts and have some on hand if the prices actually continue to rise as they have lately. It"s early, but if it"s ready to go, it"s ready to go.

Wesley Where is here??

Beans are getting a slow start here with all the rain. I got about 250 done but got a ways to go.

No one is combining corn here in SE Iowa. Corn is to wet.

Gary.

Here in Central, IN I am just watching the rain before going to work. So far this year out of 230 acres of corn; I have picked about 14 with a 2RN picker. I always start out with it because I have storage for 4000 bushel on the ear. NO DRYING EXPENSE!!! Then I will switch to shelling later when moisture content permits. This time last year I had 40 acres finished I think. No beans in yet! Last year 75% in at this date. Scotty

no corn yet here in north central il, prolly not till 2nd week of november. beans are just starting to come out of the fields, but with all the rain now, they will be standing there for a while yet. been lucky and havent had to run the dryers for a couple years....but looks like this year gonna drain some propane tanks.

We've got about 150 acres of beans done in NW IN. Some were already 11%, but raining a bunch now. We did 40 acres yesterday during a nice breezy sunny day. We've done about 40 acres of corn on sandy ground that we got in early. One field had dried down to 18% already. We've hauled some others in at 19-21%. Heard of guys doing 30%. I've never done it that wet before. Got 1.25" of rain already today and more to come. That will put the brakes on.

All the corn around me is for silage. So far its about 2/3 done. Mines all chopped and I thought I would be done planting wheat today. Alas the rain shut me down with 8 acres to go.

Corn is getting way too dry, but the ground is way too wet. I've got both dozers out now trying to get wagons out where people were pushing the ground moisture too much. Corn's been really good though, some of mine, in a low place was over the top of a Badger forage box with a roof on it.

In my corner of NW KY we are about 3 or 4 weeks behind on corm my uncle who gets done 2 years out of five with corn in Sept. worked one day two weeks ago and one day last week. He has not started beans. Beans are about on schedule around here, people have left the corn and jumping around getting beans as they dry instead of getting corn done and then coming to beans. I would say corn is 1/4 done and beans ain't far behind that. One inch of rain Tuesday, another inch so far to day with more to come tonight. Going to be a long nasty fall here. While my corn and beans ain't ready they will be with a week or so of dry sunny weather. I pay neighbors to custom combine mine and I have to wait till they are done before they will do mine so here I set, chear'n them along, hope'n they can get move'n.

Here in central NC the corn was picked a couple of weeks ago. Early beans are now being combined, and the beans that were planted after the wheat was combined will probably not be ready for another month or so.

Went on a trip to IA to see daughter last week end. Had a chat with IAGary and saw his nice operation.

Went across NW TN and went up MO Bootheel. Farmers in TN were combining corn and beans. Some of both crops were obviously planted late. Lots of green leaves on soybeans. Some cotton there but very little open. "Open" means the boll has split, letting the white cotton out to fluff up and dry, if anybody is not familar with the term. About the same story in MO but as we
got further North conditions were as IAGary described.

We went back across IL and IN. Lots of soybeans being harvsted, more ready in IN than IL. Lots of green showing in the corn, understand planting was late because of rain.

Crossed the Ohio at Lexington, KY, which I'm not going to do again. At the bridge they had one lane serving two interstates, one of which we needed. It was rush hour time also. Across river the land is hilly and I didn't see many crops. Pastures looked great.

Here in SC probably all the corn has been harvested either for grain or silage for a goos while. Some early beans cut, lots of green leaves on beans, some no tilled after grain.

Rain here has kept me from cutting hay.

There's not a lot of corn coming out in my part of NW Iowa except where corn is needed badly. Some feed mills and ethanol plants are running short of corn so they're paying up well and maybe even dropping the drying charge, so there's been some 20+ percent corn coming out in a few areas.

The beans are about 1/2 done. We just need some sunshine to get the beans going but most of the corn is going to have to dry a bit yet if we don't want to pay a big drying bill. Jim

Here in our little corner of central IL it is safe to say nothing is done. We picked about 20 acres of corn yesterday and I have heard of a very few beans that have been harvested and that is about it. The forecast is two more days of rain. Chance of some mixed rain snow as the temps will dip into the 20's over the weekend. Clearing off next week with rain towards the end of the week will keep progress to a minimum. The talk here is all about the weather now.
Looks like the guys south of us are getting hamered with alot of rain. Really feel for them. So far only about a half inch of rain here.

I haven't started yet,,got a few wrenches to pull on the combine , But I am not in a hurry yet .. Here in southern IN. The mega farmers are pickin and choosin dry fields ,,,Moisture is closer to 20 than 15 they tell me... few guys have started on beans ... We Need 2 weeks of Hot Indian Summer...

Bill,
Was down to Springfield the last couple of days. Rained like all getout all day Thursday - quite a bit of water standing in the fields. On the way home, noticed some corn was out north of Lincoln from earlier this week but still a lot and hardly any beans out.

Jim

Never heard anyone predicting that late in Central Ill. My prediction either the last week of Oct or the 1st week of November was considered pretty pessimistic. Two have taken some corn out. One just a few end rows on some mid-May planted corn and then stopped. The other always wants to be the first harvesting and first done. Thirty + % moisture doesn't faze/deter him, likes to claim the flies follow his combine. His corn was planted in early May and surprisingly his progress has been slow based on past history. Many plan on starting slowly next week if the weather ever calms down.

So. central Mn. I took some corn out today. 28.5% About 3/4 done with beans when we got 4+ inches rain. So while I'm waiting for that to dry I thought I would take enough corn to get dryer started and make sure it runs ok. I'm glad I did because It would not fire and I found the problem to be a broken gas feeder line to burner. Took a while to get it replaced but she runs like a top now. Thought I would finish taking end rows on that field and then wait for it to get dryer. Filled 600 bushel wagon and then could not get it out of field. Put bigger fwa on but by then wagon had sunk so could not pull it with that eather. Tomorrow will auger some on to another wagon untill I can get it out. Life on the funny farm. Oh well its to wet anyway so that will give me something to do tomorrow.

Here in Southeast nebraska we have 1000 acres of corn out and 500 acres of beans. Corn is in 15s and 16s and beans are in 11s. Corns making about 170 and beans are around 53

Finished chopping about 250 acres of corn today
only 150 acres left to combine . Kinda tough to get
it done since it rains every other day in Central NY

Here in southern Ontario, things have been at a standstill for the past 2 weeks on account of the weather. When it does clear, most of the beans will be ready. Very few soys have been done and the edible beans are maybe half to 2/3 off. A lot of cattle/dairy farmers are really struggling to get their silage off. Most corn ranges from just black-layered to 50% milk line. Harvest will be slow, late and stressful! Canners are still picking sweet corn and making a real mess of fields.

Hey KEH,I can see why you had so much trouble crossing the Ohio at Lexington Ky.,that makes for a longggggg bridge.Just kidding but think about it.Where you did cross can be a royal headache at times.
