It has been long awaited and caused much concern but we have started harvest.

This is dekalb 58-16 planted on may 11. It is testing 26% and happily it is yielding as well as we had hoped. We picked about 20 acres to get this farm opened up and see if everything was going to work. I fired up the drier and stirator and now we will just have to wait for it to dry.
Weather looks bad, rain, maybe lots of rain. Cool weather will follow with maybe lows in the high 20's. This year just wont give us a break.

This tree stands alone as a silent guardian over the prarie. Its is a osage orange or as we call them hedge trees. Not so many years ago there were countless hedge rows surrounding farms in this area. Almost all of it is gone now. This one lone tree stands square in the middle of a quarter section as a reminder of what used to be.

Bill - It is about time isn"t it? I saw some havesting just north of the Cat tech center, but that"s about it right now. At least your drying cost should be down a bit, right? How come all I"ve seen of your machines before is green, and now all I see is red? Good luck!

We should be bearing down on finishing harvest not starting it! This is going to be a year to forget. Latest planting in my life. Cool all summer and horrible wet. Still a nice crop is waiting in the field but it wont mature. I only know of one other person within a few miles who has picked any corn. I talked with the elevator today and they have had LESS than 10,000 bu delivered so far all year, total! Alot of days they will get over 100,000.
Our bin dryers are all on LP gas and luckily it is just exactly half the price it was last year. Also the cost of fertilizer and chemicals have dropped like a rock so it looks like next year it will take alot less money to farm.
Yep, today was mostly red but the 4010 was there earning its keep on the auger. Hooked onto the wagon is a 1026 hydro. Running it around to stretch it legs a little while it waits to be restored.

The trucks started rolling into the elevator again today about 2PM. Beans are testing in the 14's but it is time to go. By 5PM they were testing in the 12's and 13's. We could use two weeks of days like today. Corn is still in the mid twenties.

My brother is south of Taylorville and said he has one field of corn left. Low yield was 203, high yield was 211 coming out of the field at 20%.

Looks like we are in for a tough weekend.

Things are underway here in Weldon and Lane. We took in 90,000 plus bushels of corn today in Lane, ranging from 17 to 26 in moisture. We have taken in about 400,000 in our 4 elevators so far.

At least you were able to see if things are going to work, dad doesn't even have a combine to look at right now.

Unless he has some early corn there is no rush. We have about 200 acres of 104-108 day corn that is under 30. The 110 day corn and longer looks like it will be a long time before it even gets to 30. This is going to take forever!

Is that a 1026 hydro or maybe an 826 pulling that gravity box? A fine machine like that is hard to mistake. A nice looking rig in any case. Good luck with the harvest.

Bill I am surprised your corn is that dry.

105 day planted the 28th of April is still 27% for the neighbor.

I got another 45 acres of beans cut this afternoon.

Ran 3 days last week,Monday of this week and today.

Over half done.

Lot of dew and rain so the cutting is short days.

Yields from 41 to 61 depending on how much Sudden Death was in the field.

Finished up Monday. 112 day planted April 4 was at 16.5%. Not the yield I was expecting but respectable at 155 bu/ac.

So.East Il harvest off to a good start then rain started seems we get a couple of dry days to run then here it comes again have been getting some corn out of the field in the 16 to 20 range , bean harvest just getting going here but for a couple of days we were getting them in the 12's

Glad you got a "start" on it before this bad weather. Bet Wrigley is getting antsee to go with nothing to do!

Those of you in Illinois how much rain did you get? We had around 4" yesterday, still sprinkling some today. About 45 miles south of Springfield here.
