3pt. Capacity

Am looking for an old tractor in good shape to plow snow move round bales (1300-1800lbs). Looking mid 50's to late 60's with live hydraulics and live PTO. Here is what I have found:

Ford 861
Ford 971
John Deere 2510
Ford 801
Ford 860

Do you think these tractors would be able to handle bales of that size? I have moved round bales with 35HP tractors before with a couple hundred pounds of wieghts on the front but the bales were only 900-1200 lbs...

You would need a lot more tractor than eny of those for that size bale, for the bales look for something in size of a 4010-4020 Deere.

Bales that size on the 3 point as for the fords NO WAY now if they have a loader yes I use a ford 841 with loader to move my round bales and they are around 2000lbs but I use the loader

Got to ask, have you put the bales on scales or are we guess'n here on the 1800 lbs and what were they baled with? A true 1800 lb bale is big and tight. Any of the tractors you listed are going to be pretty light for big tight bales.

biger biger on the tractor the larger fords might have the hydraulics, just barley maybe, but the tractor itself doesnt weigh enough to keep the front wheels from flappin in the breeze when you pick it up, like the other guy said jd 4010 or 4020, big ih ect

I've always found the 3pt to be able to lift more than a loader on a tractor.

I lift my 5x6 bales with my compact 1720 NH on the 3pt on rare ocasion - just so. The loader wouldn't come close.

My 960 will just barely lift them. I'd be scared of putting that much weight on a loader on a 100 series Ford.

I'm not disagreeing with you, mind you. I'm just surprised. What kinda loader do you have, and how do you keep the rear end on the ground?

Have no idea what brand the loader is but it is a heavy duty one. I have not done it in a long time but years ago I would use it to pick up cars with, mind you they where the little datsuns etc. My rear tires are filled with fluid and I keep either not disk or back blade on the 3 point and both of them have weights on them so holding the rear end down is not a major problem
