Craziest auction I've ever been to

Hey all,

Went to the Cathman auction in Bagley Wi this past weekend. It was CRAZY! It was 3 miles down a one lane road and 1 mile up a driveway up the side of a bluff. They had guys at the top and the bottom of the driveway with radios directing traffic. It has been raining for a week and 4WD pickups were getting stuck, trying to go up this hill. I got up with my F150 and trailer, but got stuck trying to climb the last 100 feet to parking. I was fantastically lucky that I loaded up my one purchase (Deere rollover plow for parts) while everyone was drooling over the baler. I'll bet others were there 'til midnight.

90% of the stuff was junk and went to two scrappers there, but I heard bidders over 1000 bidding. They all come to see a New Holland 166 in original and great running condition sell. $17000 bought it. rumors were flying about local guys with $100K lines of credit, Canadians travelling all the way down to see it, and an $18k online bid. All was apparently BS.

They had stuff at the bottom of the hill as well and went down ther abour noon to sell it. Most rode down in the backs of pickups. I gave up my spot in one to an elderly couple and walked down. Beinf young and dumb, I figured I'd go STRAIGHT down the hill going 500 fet down instead of a mile around. I wasn't the only one. The guy in front of me FELL off a 15 foot cliff. He grabbed a sapling on the way down, but it did little slow him. He was OK, but I'll bet he needed to wipe after that.

Some other interesting sales -

scrappers were paying 400 for no 30 combines, 150 for 2 bottom plows, 900 for pickup trucks

John Deere 630 - 8500
front mount plow in 630 - 1100
Deere 60 with mid mount sickle - 6500
ih 1086 2000 hrs - 12500
complete deere 825 3-16 rollovers - 850, 1300, and 1400
parts deere 835 3-16 rollovers 275 and 400 ( I bought the 400 one)

I didn't write anything down and these number could be off a bit.

Scrappers - Guys who carry around rattle cans of orange paint and paint 2 foot tall bidder numbers on all they buy. They're loud, they're cocky, and they generally anger anyone around them.

I DOUBT they're gonna do anything other than blue wrench them. Unprepared farms scrap is bringing $125 a ton here if you're a guy off the street. I'm sure regulars get a couple bucks more.
