Overheating

Hi
Would a low pressure radiator cap cause a 6 cylinder JD to put collant out the radiator overflow pipe once hot or is it likely to be a more serious issue. No oil in water or visa vera.
Thanks
Bill

The higher the pressure rating of the cap, the higher the boiling point of the coolant (same as with a pressure cooker). So in theory a lower rated cap could make the tractor appear to overheat. That said I wouldn't expect to see a whole lot of difference unless you're working the tractor very hard. What does your temperature gauge say? Are you sure you aren't overfilling the system and it's just pushing out the excess? Sam

As tractorsam stated. You are overfilling a cooling system which has no expansion bottle.
What is going to happen when you fill a sealed right to the top while cold? Now warm up the system and everything expands. If the cap didn't relieve pressure the cooling system would rupture.

What engine is it? I would guess has a hole in sleeve. When I was working on tractors when one start putting coolant out overflow owner first would replace cap then replace head gasket sometimes even water pump.
