F12 14 engines

What are the differences between the F12 and F14 engines? I think the F14 is goverened to run faster. Was that done with a heavier spring or lighter flyweights?

One difference is the valve cover breather on the 14, which is secured on the side of the block on a 14 by a bolt. The 12 engine wont have this hole. Other than the obvios internal differences, pistons, etc. they are pretty much the same.

Lots of internal differences even in the various F-12 series IH engines built over the years. The 1936 F-12 engines were much improved from earlier years. As for the changes for the F-14, I think even the oil pump and cylinder heads are different, at least they are between the W-12 and W-14 according to the factory casting numbers. Are you wanting to mix and match parts, or just swap complete engines? IH made lots of running changes over the years-a parts catalog will sort it out for you. The governors were different part numbers, and the springs were different. I do not know what would happen (or even if it would work) if you tried using later springs in an earlier governor.

The very first F-12s had Waukesha engines. Also, there were 2848 F-12s made in Germany. Otherwise the two models used a 113 cu in IH egine with the F-12 running at a rated RPM of 1400 and the F-14 at 1650. I personally wouldn't worry about it. Slap that F-12 engine in and who cares if it has 1 or 2 HP less?
