tractor rivalries

i hear guys say things like "my john deere 4020 can out pull your farmall 806" and vise versa and i was wondering what some of the bigger rivalries were. here are some i could think of. tell me what you think. This is all in fun so lets not bicker.

note- i dont know as much about the molines, allis chalmers and fords so fill me in on some.

John Deere 4020 vs Farmall 806
John Deere 3020 vs Farmall 706
John Deere 4430 vs International 1066
John Deere 4230 vs International 966
Oliver 1655 vs John Deere 3020
Oliver 1855 vs John Deere 4020
Minneapolis Moline G1355 vs Oliver 2255
Massey Ferguson 1080 vs Ford 7000

not really,at our antique tractor pulls the 660IHC has out pulled the 820and 830 with a full pull.

And...........my Daddy can whup your Daddy; well, he could've in the '40s, when he was still a young man, but what's the point? No way to prove it.

is JD still making those old obsolete 2 cylinder tractors? You know the ones that were outdated by the 1930's that by the time you got one started the neighbor had 2 rounds plowed with a Case or farmall

Ha. Mustave been a 706 pulling the deer. Otherwise it would(deer) have run in reverse in shame.lol. LOU a red fan.

A man came up as I was unloading my early 50s Case disc for display at the Freeport IL show 2 weeks ago. After looking at the freshly painted Case green implement for a couple seconds, he said "that is not a John Deere". And I responded "you're looking for John WHO "

Thats because your arm & hands gave out trying to start the old deers. Run blisters on my hands trying to get the thing(deer) started. Finaly pulled it with a G.M.C. to get it running and back to the barn. lol/

Case cant keep pace, Deere don't come near, Better to stay in bed then drive red, Drivin blue and you'll lose, A good fella would drive yella. To make the point clear, Moline's better then all of them.

Just today I was speculating which tractor we have approximates the power of a JD 4020, whether it was the 560, 756, 826, or 1086. Eventually I went by PTO HP and decided that it was the 826. Nevermind that I know any 4020 would drag the 826 around like a toy because a hydro just doesn't have the drawbar power of a gear grinder.

are the 826, 856 and 886 any good??? just wondering. The 4020 is a good tractor and i think everyone knows it. some are jealous because of all the attention it gets. I bleed the other green (the one that lasts forever) -OLIVER!!!

Freeport is an hour or so North and a little East. Five of us camped Fri. and Sat. We left by 2:00 Sun.
Started going to that show in the mid 70s with my grandfather. Have missed only a year or two since.

the D21's are beasts!!! one did pretty well at a pull i was at earlier this year. I guess they would be rivals with the Oliver 2255 and the MM G1355. sound about right?

Had a old farmer tell me once it is good that we have different color tractors because.--- when you borrow the neighbors tractor you feel your tractors are so much better than theirs. You have heard it all, the other color is ok, but just not as much power as mine, doesn't steer as easy as mine. The neighbors sure drank the fuel, hard to see around the muffler, etc.

Around here, the green guys stop the joking around by, --asking what color has the best resale? That usualy pretty much ends the teasing. Then as a very last word, refer to the lawnmowers and resale value for the icing on the cake.

Tractor color often is like religion and poly --ticks.....passed on from generation to generation as the best, and the only correct one, and FEELING SORRY FOR ALL THE OTHERS THAT JUST DON'T SEE IT YOUR WAY.

Amazing how those obsolete two cylinders set fuel efficiency records. Had PS, live hydraulics and live pto.
The two cylinders took market share from other manufactures. And made the company profit to fund research and build the New Generation line.
The New Generation Line put everybody else out of business and/or into corporate mergers.

color don't matter to me. i like some of each. here at my dads farm i've grown up with every brand except moline so as long as it works and runs like it should it is used here! i own both red and green and like them both
M puller

Had a neighbor once tell me that Case stood for Couldn't Afford Something Else. I don't know, I have a few Case garden tractors that I like.

Good one on the Case. Color really doesn't matter around our farm. We have had Deeres up to this point, but last purchase was CaseIH 7140. Great grain cart tractor. Cummins engine matches up with the Massey combine and the floater.

Back in the 70s in the area I grew up in, the 3 main dealers were JD, Ford and Allis. When farmers got together they usually discussed what they liked or disliked about their tractors without putting down the neighbor's tractor. Often the choice of brand had more to do with the dealer than the tractor. The AC dealer in particular was nice to deal with, and I remember Dad throwing some business his way even though he prefered the Deere machines.
The big tractors in the neighborhood were JD 4020, 4320, and 4430; Ford 8000 and 8600; and Allis 7000 and 7020.

I would take any one of them. So, if anybody got one of those they just can't live with, I'll gladly take it of their hands for a minimal "disposal" fee. LOL.
As far as old time rivalries go I have not heard Oliver 1850 brought up. Even guys who had other colors used to say the 1850 diesel would out do an 856 or 4020.
Oliver 88 had independent PTO and hydraulics years before IH or Deere released it on their lines. Even longer on Diesel without the bother of gas start or pony motors.
When I was a kid the IH boys would crow the 1066 was the ultimate tractor. One weekend when all the older folks were out of town the JD kids challenged the IH kids with a 4520 synchro. The IH kids were pretty quiet in school the following Monday.
Again, somedays I wish I could have them all.
