A friend has a 350 that he said does not have high enough rpms to run his baler. I don't know to much about govenors to help him. Anybody have some helpful tips? I forgot to ask him if the spring was ok.

Thanks, Rollie

Before cranking on the governor, make sure of three things. That the throttle linkage is actually opening the governor lever all the way at full throttle.
That the baler is rated for 540PTO,
and that the PTO is locking in the run position, and not slipping.
Cranking the Engine to run a 540 at 1000 would be a short lesson in unacceptable part redistribution.

Thanks . The baler runs at 540 rpms. This guy said he checked all the linkage and tried to fine tune it. He said that when he puts his other tractor that has a tack on the baler and runs it at 540 and then puts the 350 on the baler and runs it at full throttle there is a noticeble differance in the baler/operating speed, (no load). The baler operates slower. All I know about a govenor is what happens when the spring breaks.

My 450 does not run the PTO fast enough either. Adjusted all the linkage and still can not come up to 540. The pin at the throttle is worn and I can not get it out to replace. Read somewhere that you may have to twist the throttle rod a little to get it to 540 rpm, if all adjustments are used up.
