I am painting for the first time and I have a hvlp gun and it is leaving lots of drops any idea what I"m doing wrong? Besides trying to paint that is.

What kind of paint are you using? Does your gun have a pressure gauge on it? May be wrong pressure. Also are you straining out the globs?

I am using rustoleum for a boat trailer. I have thinned it and there are no globs. I dont have a gauge on the gun but I have a regulator on the line.

Are you saying drops of paint are going to the applied surface? Are you spraying down vertically on the surface? Do you get them spraying on a vertical application? Where are the "drops" coming from on the gun?
You really need a gauge at the gun. 35 psi or so at the gun inlet is about 12 psi nozzle for an HVLP gun, varies with tip and Mfg.

are u sure it isn't water yapor - the other day jusy blowing off the baler for storage mine was spitting water something fierce - I can't imagine trying to paint anything when it was working that way

it is dripping from the gun and anything under the gun gets drips they are every where and running down the side of the gun.

I would agree with below that you are probably getting water condensation in the compressor, and that is sending it on out through the gun. Either drain the water from the compressor very frequently, or far better yet get a water filter and you should solve the problem. Bob
