timing a massey harris 44 6

not sure how to put this tractor back in time any help would be greatfully appriciated thanks

How far out of time is it? If it"s like 40 degrees off, then your distributer is out of sinc with your oil pump. They are connected, believe it or not. One tooth of the oil pump off to be exact.

You can be 180 degrees off and the engine will still run if you change the wires on the distributor. That is what happened when I reassembled my 101 Senior with the same engine. You need to stick your finger in #1 plug hole, and when compression pushes out finger, continue until you are at TDC. Then check you see where the rotor is pointed, and adjust from there.

to continue from dave, then you line up your timing mark on the pulley . loosen dist. turn on ign. and rotate dist. opposite way rotor turns, as soon as you hear the spark snap tighten it down here. you are timed.

i had to take the head off to replace and wasn't sure how put it back in time thanks for your help
