Plantin' Time

My brother and I decided to get my two old Case"s out to drill wheat this year. Here are some pictures yesterday of my 830 with a 8300 JD drill. My brother was using my 500 with another 8300 drill but in a different field. Weather was great and it felt nice to be out in it. It"s supposed to get colder in the next day or two so I imagine the cab tractor will have to come back out. Thought you might enjoy. Bob

Nice looking Case tractors! We used a friends 830 Case once. Nice tractor, I thought the hood was a mile long! Power steering was great, our tractors didn't have power steering, or power! { 2N Ford & a BF Avery}

I enjoyed your pictures .. I bet it was good to feel the air hitting you ..
THANKS for sharing ...

Actually Nancy, we have very good moisture in the ground, although the pics don't really look like it. I am up in Central KS. 20 miles south it's too wet to get into the fields. It's been a crazy summer up here, but lot's of moisture.
PS, sorry for the poor pictures. I took them with my phone last night and thought they were better than that. At least in the smaller version they were. Bob

Nice looking tractor and drill.

How many acres did you plant?

Thanks for sharing your photos with us; doesn't matter to me that they were taken with your cell phone.

We have 80 acres planted and about that many more to go. I just got the 830 from a fellow in Ohio, and was dying to do something with it. This gave it a nice workout as the tractor has been in a collection for a few years. Reminds me of the good old days. I don't know if anyone remembers riding the drills in the old days, especially when you were close to done, so you could clean the wheat all out. As a kid of 8 or so through 12 or so, we had a double hitch with 2 van brunt steel wheeled drills. It was great fun jumping off one and getting on to the other. There were planks on the back above the press wheels for riding. Now a days, you would get a visit from SRS. How times have changed.

Yes, I remember having to ride on the back of the drills. We used them to plant corn and cane for silage. They were 10 inch spacing, so we taped off 3 holes and left the 4th open. Had to ride back there to make sure they never ran out. Amazing how as I got older, nobody else "got" to do this job!! Also had to ride on the hay rake, hit the "tripper" with my foot, on the dump rake, to make the windrows. As I got older, we went to a rake that you could dump by pulling the rope from the tractor seat. Guess that is what helped make me who I am!!

Nice 830. Uncle had a 830 row crop. sure looks familier looking over the hood in the 1st. pic. Do any of your dash guages work? The vibration on those 830s seems to take it's toll on them.

Actually the speedometer, the oil pressure, and the amp guage work. I put a water temp guage off to the right side for safety. It's a fun tractor to drive.
