New Holland manure spreader

Question? On the older New Holland manure spreaders what type of wood was used in the bed of the spreader? They are tongue and groove boards. One guy told me they were oak, another said they were hemlock. The originals are so far gone I can't tell. Models 311,320, etc.

Well I saw the darndest thing and it makes sense. I happened to be in a mennonite shop a few months back and they were converting old spreaders to horse drawn. They put a front axle on them, a ten horse engine to run the spreader..and a new floor out of plastic deck board. The plastic deck will never rot out, it looked good too. I think that is what I will use when I need to put new flooring in mine

I put a new floor in my NH 327 a few yr. ago and used 1X8 pressure treated ,got along fine and it still looks good.I don't know how tongue and goove works out as it is about 1 1/2"to 2"wider in the back than the front

I put a piece of 3/4 inch exterior plywood in mine for the last go-around. Kinda pricey, esp. since I had to special-order a 10 foot piece, but figure it will "do me" for the duration.

My outlook on repairs is becoming like the old joke about two guys going through the bull pen, and when bull gives chase, one guy says "I told you we couldn't outrun that bull", the other replies, "I don't have to outrun the bull, I just have to outrun you!" My repairs don't have to last forever anymore, just longer than me.
