snow blower

I have an Agro Trend 7 ft. blower with a manual crank type mechanism to rotate the chute, want to convert to hydraulic. I'm thinking a small hydraulic motor is the simplest way to do this, just cut the crank off and weld up a bracket to hold the motor and connect the motor shaft direct to the remaining crank shaft.
Any body have any idea what size/volume/torque motor would be suitable

I think your idea would work fine. But, would it be easier just to use a hyd. cylinder???? Maybe you wouldn't be able to get as many degrees of rotation of the chute as you would with the hyd. motor. Check out what other snow blowers use and the arrangement.

I did this exact same thing to myy snow blower last winter. I bought an el cheapo hydraulic motor on ebay. I drilled 2 holes in the current bracket for the hand crank and bolted the motor to it. The crank pole slipped right on the motor shaft and I put a bolt thru it as a key. The only problem is for some reason it doesn't always wind the cable straight and the motor has enough torque to break the cable if I don't pay attention, but it awesome being able to move the chute without turning around and trying to twist the stinking crank.

Had a look at an Agro Trend down the road that has a cylinder arrangement from the factory..looks like the drive train of a steam locomotive, more dam pulleys and cables and crank shafts than you can shake a stick at.
Think the motor would be better, there is often elegance in simplicity...Thanks for the reply Jim
