Will Oliver 550 3-point hitch handle 1200# round bale?

How long is this bale? Do you have a plow that it picks up now. If so what does that plow weigh and how long is it?

Well that might depend on what you have on the front. I would think that you might pick up the front end before you picked up that bale. I know the 3 point on a Ford 841 will lift that much if and only if you have something like a loader on the front end to hold the front tires on the ground

my 550 will lift them with ease but it has a big loader as a counter balancer. On the other had if I want to handle them with the loader I have to ad 900 pounds to the 3 pt hitch and it already has fluid and rear weights.

Thanks gentlemen. I haven't bought the tractor yet. There are no weights on the front end and this would be 6x6 bale. Sounds like I might need a lot of weight. Are they easy to attach? JoeC

It's gonna be real rough on the tractor, with lots of things breaking over time- I'd get a bigger tractor. 550's are popular (and pricey) enough that you can probably get a tractor that can handle the job better for about the same money.
