Both are supposed to be in good working condition and stored under roof. Guess the owner of the 1st one had more time on his hands and an image to keep up... One is a 430 and one a 430T (have no idea what the difference is).

Here in the states that would be an early model, narrow pickup and narrow tires. 430T was a twine baler versus a 430W for wire tie. The later models had the All Twine knotters, and wider cleansweep pickup, much better machine. But those machines weren't made in the states....James

(quoted from post at 01:52:15 09/17/09) Hi Dave, your baler could have been made at IH Doncaster works here in the UK. MJ

Probably was, don't think they were made in Germany. Know anything about the balers? Does the company still exist (maybe get some info there)?

(quoted from post at 04:47:51 09/17/09) Looks like you did real well. Both look like they weren't abused and well kept. Good goin'!

Haven't got one yet... The nicer one is for sale about 400 miles away and the other one is on ebay 50 miles away. Got 2 days to make up my mind..

no-brainer to me--there is no guarantee the far-away one is as good as you think. I'd go look at the 50 mile away one, and buy it if it is good.

1) 800 miles is a ridiculously far drive to look at an antique baler

2) there is no guarantee is is what you think it is

3) I can imagine all sorts of problems dragging it home

4) Time is money, and the far one will burn up plenty of both just going to look at it

5) haying season is almost over--plenty of time to find a closer one before next year

6) Close one doesn't look that bad

I wouldn't give the 800 mile one a second thought.

I routinely drive 800 miles in a short day. The distance wouldn't bother me one bit, IF. You have to find out more about the baler. Do you know someone who knows all the little things about those balers? Maybe someone here can help. I have a friend who drove all the way to Colorado to pick up a tractor that he only talked about on the phone with the owner. A 2200 mile round trip and it was a Steiger.

(quoted from post at 14:27:21 09/18/09) if price is right buy them both and resell the one you don't like.

You OBVIOUSLY don't know my wife  .....

Not a bad idea, but I don't have the space and small balers aren't real popular these days, prolly get stuck with it or loose money.
