There is a John Deere M on craiglist last night which the tractor is about 60 miles from me. All it says is, complete-does not run. $400.

I can imagine the condition it "could" be in out here but if 400 will buy it I think I should have it.

Never much liked John deere's but out here a tractor is a tractor!!
 
for 400, if complete, you can always part it out and get your money back and then some. sounds like a good deal.
 
I hope you are not sitting at your computer waiting for our replies. You should have it home and in the shed before ever knowing our responses. For $400, buy it regardless. Very good money to be made on that tractor for that price.
 
Contact the owner and make arrangements to go see it.

The tractor is worth $400 in parts alone.

Could be something simple to get it running.

Might find something better to buy from the owner.

I have gone to look at one tractor only to buy another one from the same owner.

Bought "Lazarus" our 40B, "Sparky" our 51M, and the #5 mower pictured above from the same young man.

One time Nancy and I went to Oklahoma to look at a NH square baler only to see it pass us on the country road 1 mile from our destination.

New owner turned around and came back and tried to sell it to us for a huge profit.

I hope he still enjoys it.
 
Always liked that old slogan they had "Nothing runs like a Deere to the John" or sumthin like that
