Went to the world's largest county fair Saturday, Clay County Fair In Spencer, Iowa. They claim it is the second largest display of new farm machinery in the midwest (behind the Farm Progress Show). I think it is much better, as it is a Fair as well as a machinery show--meaning there is livestock, non-farm stuff (boats, campers, pre-fab houses, consumer-type stuff for sale, etc).

Saw a $320,000 FWA Fendt tractor, the new Deere planter (48 rows), Bobcat's all-new design (way ahead of the competition), bought some tools, saw a large display of antique iron (tractors and implements), watched some kids work with their hogs and calves, ate too much great food, and had a fabulous time!

I've been to Farmfest (MN), Husker Harvest Days (NE), Iowa State Fair, Minnesota State Fair, and the Farm Progress Show (Iowa and Illinois), but this beats them all HANDS_DOWN!

If I have a good week and get a lot done in preparation for harvest, I may go again. Hats off to the people of Spencer, Iowa!!
 
Glad to here the Clay County Fair is still going. I attemded fifty nine years ago. Showed Grd.Champion Guernsey and also see my future wife. It was a great show back then.

I went today, looked at alot of mach. I can't afford any way, looked at the old tractors ( too many 2-bangers and not enough good tractors like Case's!) bought a 1/2 to 1 inch drill bit set , talked to alot of people and had a nice time. Heard they had 66,000 on sat. and were hoping for a total of 350,000 which would be up 50,000 from ave. attendance.
 
Nice to know there is a good county fair still going on somewhere. Our fair here is gradually turning into a low quality carnival as the city types take over and the farm families dwindle down to a precious few. Hillsdale County Fair, (Michigan)....."The Greatest Fair On Earth"....once upon a time....no more.....Michigan's struggling urban areas are sucking the rural areas dry and the urban survivors migrate to the country and change it to their liking and drive the famly farms away.
