Are there any roof rats in mid Iowa. I heard they are only 100 miles from the ocean. Just wondering. Have anyone of you heard anything about roof rats. There is sure a lot of intelligent people on this form. thanks again.

Never had a problem with roof rats. What I hate are those stupid snow snakes.

They're snakes that hide in a snow bank. You've never seen one? Hide pretty good, don't they?

I apologize. I shouldn't have pulled that on someone who asked an honest question.

They are common in the urban areas here in Arizona. Not so much in the country.Housing is mostly built on concrete pads so if the creatures are to get into your house the attic is the most likely place they are found at and they use the roof for thier play area thus "Roof Rats". Big problem in some area especially where Fruit is easy to get to.No laughing matter here.

I've never seen any roof rats or snow snakes around here but I have seen a few houses infested with porch monkeys.

Years ago we were prowling around an old tumble-down
little house in a beach community in Cent Calif (had an old rustbucket Willys-Knight in 4-5' tall grass and brush)...
Noticed a big fat glossy black rat on the roof; he/she followed us completely around the place, along the edge of the roof, until we left. Don't know whether it was "showing the flag" to protect its holdings or just curious...
