Have you heard of this one? Rust Belt areas, but if you have the problem I would check.

It only applies to Tacoma 95-2000 the test they perform is by taking a hammer to the frame, if the hammer goes through the frame it fails. If the Tacoma fails toyota will provide a rental for you. Toyota will buy back the truck at 150% over Kelly blue book retail. No matter what condition!! Don't think your getting money the same day it could take up to 2 weeks. After recieving your a certificate. Toyota also gives you an additional 1,000 if you get another tacoma so take advantage you only have until September 30 to get it checked
 
Guy at work did it a few months ago. Bad news/good news sort of thing. He has a new truck, but quite a bit of $$$ difference and his old one was paid off. He did get a good trade in allowance, but wasn't thinking of trading until it was checked out and the frame was shot.
 
Friend from work bought a used Tacoma a couple years ago , private sale. He took it in to be inspected and it failed due to a rusted out frame. He called the seller back and told him the news and asked for his money back. Seller laughs and says too bad for you. A week two later the recall comes out and he got about double what he paid for it. I tried to get him to call the seller back and rub it in a little but he declined.
 
So that's good, at least Toyota is doing something. I've had a few Chevy's with the same issue and GM said tough. One was an 84' K-10 and it was black flagged in 90' with a bad frame. Rotted in half next to the exploding gas tanks on both sides.
 
Would you expect anything less from GM, their products were prime examples of shoddy union 'craftsmanship' long before they became Government Motors.

Read the book "Rivethead", to see how things were done by the line workers at one GM plant.

They deserve to go belly up.
