Tractor Driver tasered on parade route

Anyone read this on MSNBC? What are cops thinking?? Yep, this guy looks like an unruly dude. Could be anyone of us!!!

Something is radically wrong in that town.I belong to 2 different clubs that have parades thru town and any participant can pull out of the parade at any time and any place without problems, if that happened here there would be a riot.

So the stupid cop pulled right in front of an old tractor and the driver bumped hid little car. Would you do this.

Worst of all this what they get for doing it.

"The Glenrock Police Department has placed two of its seven officers on paid administrative leave "

Pretty good tazer some old guy and get a year off with pay. Personally I think we need to make a few changes in how we take care of this type of situations. We have lots of officers on payed leave here in Oregon how many in your state.

The cops love their new toys. Big egos, little brains, they have LESS restrictions on the use of deadly force, than our military do when in a combat zone, and unlike the military, are accountable to no one, and are protected by their fellow officers.

Law 'enforcement' is NOT your friend.

Two types of police officers. One type, it's just a job. Other type, it's an attitude.

When I'm in trouble, I want one that thinks it's a job.

Even Oh!Bamba and his "Just print more money" stratagy hasn't printed enough to get me to want to be a cop these days though. A GOOD one OR a bad one. Tough job. The only time they get any recognition is when one does something stupid.

I have said it over and over, I will take my chances with the criminals, it's the cops that scare me!!

Yes I have had some run ins with them.

About half of them are not smart enough to own a gun, let alone carry and use one.

Not here to defend cops by any means, but I have a friend who is a city cop in our town. He said that during training it was required for all the trainees to get tasered, so that they knew what it felt like and what it did.

He said it hurt so darn bad that if he ever had to taser someone in the line of duty(he hasn't yet), he would probably appologize to them before pulling the trigger.

Of course, for him, it's a job. He never was one of the "bully types" that so often seem to go into law enforcement.

Oh, I can hear the radio traffic after he brushed by the first one, striking his wrist. A hit and run, officer assaulted, suspect on a John Deere tractor, proceeding . . .

Second officer sets off in high-speed pursuit and attempts to cut off a vehicle which, if it is typical, has questionable brakes at best, and a bumper thumper results. Another assault on an officer, criminal mischief, unsafe operation. I'm sure in the heads of the two overwrought officers in question the charges against this guy were just piling up, enough that he could turn into a real desperado in an attempt to escape the long incarceration certain to be his punishment for being such an outlaw.

So they pull out the Taser. What a couple of loons!

I'm having my doubts about these Tasers. They were intended as an alternative to deadly force, and for those instances where officers could be injured by violently unruly people. They are not intended to take the place of tried and true means of otherwise of forcing compliance from someone simply refusing to cooperate. Seems I'm hearing of a lot of cases (too many) where officers are using them in situations where the detainee is nothing more than angry, mouthy or otherwise uncooperative. Peace officers have to put up with a lot, and if I were in their shoes I'm sure I'd run upon a situation now and then where I wanted to crack somebody right in the mouth, or give 'em a tunk with a nightstick, or twist and hold their arm while I explained just how the rest of the conversation would proceed. My frustration with modern-day restrictions against the old style of policing that would have allowed me to deliver a judicious smack upside the head when called for would not be cause to use the Taser.

You are correct. When I was a teenager, our community had an 11 pm curfew for those under 18. Our community also operated on Daylight Savings time, which was a violation of the Federal Uniform Time Act that was in effect at the time. So one night when I was 17, In was stopped by a town cop at 11:15 pm "fast time," and told I was in violation of the curfew law. I then proceeded to quote to the officer the pertinent parts of the Federal Uniform Time Act, and how, legally, it was only 10:15 pm.

The cop thought for a second, and then came back with: "Kid...see this badge? See this watch? As long as I'm wearin' this badge, what this watch says is LEGAL TIME." In other words, "I AM THE LAW, and you are to ignore what legislation is on the books."

Nice to see that cops haven't changed since I was a teenager, and the law is what they say it is, and not what's written in the local, state, and federal codes and ordinances. The guy on the tractor failed to do what he was told, so obviously he broke the law...and when you break the law, it's the cop's duty to make you conform to what the law says..."the law" being the person wearing the badge. There are some who'll argue that because this man on the tractor didn't obey the officer, he deserved whatever they did to him, and possibly a lot more.

I learned a lesson that night in a small town. Even when they're wrong, the cops are the ones with the guns, the handcuffs, and these days the tasers. So that makes them automatically right in any and all circumstances.

I'm guessing the tractor was stopped when they did this? If it wasn't they are real idiots...... I can imagine a run away tractor, tasered man being run over, etc.

The cops were just trying to help the man save his dignity by getting him off that green thing. Just kidding some times the book does not cover all situations and the police were not smart enough to adjust this time, still no excuse. OOOOR maybe the police knew he had the high speed road gear option in that 630 and were afraid he would out run them

Being in law enforcment years ago, the cop followed procedure, I would have, ( and have done ) the same.

follow the laws, or get busted...

being tasered is better then being shot with a 9mm.

I remember years and years ago, the cops did not have tasers, but they did have a BIG Chunk of Lead to hit you over the head,

I would have to agree, taser is better...

I would guess that this cop is doing an entrapment situation here-- looks like a driveway to begin with.[ your kind of arrest] , probably thought no one would see him using excessive force.

The guy is publicly drunk, but a 200 pound cop needed a taser to control a 100 pound drunk ??? if you breathed on this kid he would have fallen over.

He knew the kids name before he started the (Chase)

Yep!! very good example of your kind of public servery. you wouldn't made a pim---Never mind !!

Old Roy,, Cop was following Procedure, some thing you have to learn, or be a failure.

looks to me you don"t know what a drive way looks like/

The cop obviously knew the drunk and even said that he had told he couldn't drink and drive the tractor. So taze him.
We have these drunk lawn mower people around here, drive a lawn tractor when they take your license.
If you think out the scenario, if you get on your lawn tractor and go to the local gas station, one of your insurances is going to cover it. If one of these drunks runs into you what insurance does he have?

Common sense is one thing you lack.

If you read the original post news article the guy in the parade was 76 , with a pacemaker.

The cop showed no professionalism as his chest was so swollen that his brain couldn't get enough oxygen , you know like when you put on that uniform and badge, how much like God you felt ??

By the way, would you listen to a younger generation bad a$$ cop if you felt like you were right, because you, because of your background may know the law better than he?

Or would you take the taser ??

Guess I don't but a one lane road that has two way traffic going into a few houses don't resemble a high traffic road.

I'm sure that he should go to jail for a whole lot of reasons. Well he wasn't driving a expensive sports car to the country club was he?

Other wise he would have been a social drinker with a little to much to drink....simple as that.

I should not complain because I don't think I could do anything to get arrested in my home town...I'm good friends with all the cops, work with them alot. I make wise cracks at them donut eating lazy bums all the time. They return the insults as well.

I do not drink or break the law intentionaly ever, but some of the town drunks are just that..town drunks. Even town drunks can kill others behind the wheel.

someone misread or the Most Socialist New Broadcasting Company lied. the man was 76 yrs old and sober as a judge---the whole town is up in arms because as usual the cops badge was bigger than his brain. the cop should be neutered so he can not reproduce !!!!!

Kinda high up in the air when it was taken, but here"s a nice picture of a driveway.

I think everybody neads to learn to read. It is all about if you are in a parade and you decide if it is no longer to your advantage to continue that you should be able to drop out at any time for any reason. IT IS NOT UP TO THE COPS to decide if you finnish a parade or not. He was at the point he needed to get someplace else instead of being stuck in a parade that would have lasted who knows how much longer or how much farther he would have been away from where he needed to be. JUST THINK OF IT LIKE THIS, IF YOU WERE IN THAT PARADE AND YOU GOT A CALL ON YOUR CELL PHONE THAT YOUR WIFE HAD A HEART ATACK AND WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL AND IF YOU COULD PULL OUT OF THE PARADE AND HEAD STRAIGHT FOR THE HOSPITAL OR IF YOU HAD TO FINNISH THE PARADE WHILE SHE WAS DYING BECAUSE OF SOME COP INSISTING YOU FINNISH THE PARADE EVEN IF IT WOULD MEAN A 2 HOUR DELAY IN YOU GETTING TO THE HOSPITAL!!! I think there should be a big lawsuit over it because the COPS OVERSTEPPED there athority. What they were atempting to do was amount to kidnaping!!!!

Thats a dumb statement considering the cop didnt tell anybody the route was changed. The cop was wrong because if the old guy wanted to go down that street its a free country and he could, why not? Then the cop drives in front of him and gets hit?Its the cops fault. Also the whole town is mad?I guess that doesnt matter? You know a good lawyer will tear them up because the community will be behind him. Those cops should be tasered 5 times in front of everybody then fired and run out of town and never allowed to be a cop again. If you start running your mouth about how wrong I am,you are just wasting your time.Dont think people have some big amount of concern for a cop that acts like that, they wont.Sounds like you are a cop or were, and this stuff right here is why cops are below snakes on the food chain. They may be below whale cr@p before long if they dont straighten up.A 78 year old man does not deserve that kind of treatment,no way,no how unless he killed somebody and then it would be questionable, and that prosecuter needs to get a new job if he presses it,he is just as stupid as his cop flunkies.Just seeing some of these peoples and your disgusting attitude is enough to turn a persons stomach. Some day you will be old.Doubtfull, but maybe.Maybe you will get tasered then.

After thinking about it some, what bunch of retards are teaching cops to be like this???One might be the Military Police, but surely they have more sense than that.Somewhere there must be some book that teaches whoever is teaching cops to abuse the public. That is the person there that needs to be brought in and tasered a few times, maybe throw him out in the crowd and give the crowd a taser so he knows whats going to happen if he keeps teaching cops to be like this.I wouldnt want to be a cop.If all they can find to be a cop will do that,we need a lot less of them or they need to look somewhere else to find cops. Also they need way more severe punishment than paid suspension.Sure is scary knowing there are cops like that out there with guns and tasers.

I think this is just a glimpse of what we are heading toward as a country. It makes me sad to think that this is what it has come to.

Yeah it is!!,and looks like a super cops car sitting in there also wonder if he got super duper chrome plated hand cuffs and a Badge ? Can I try the sirieen ??

Guess not I'll bet he'd taser me . darn !!

I dont know about the older guy on the tractor that was tasered but this guy on the mower got what he deserved. It wasnt his first time obviously. The cops arent always right no doubt but there are so many bleeding hearts out there that expect them to take any and all crap that people dish out to em. There is no wonder our courts are overflowing with repeat offenders.

Are you saying every leo that took taser training was tasered? What about leo's who also have a pacemaker?

"...where we are heading as a country..."

Where have you been? I had cops on a power trip pull this sort of stuff in the '70's.

It's not "where we are heading..." We've been there for over 30 years, you just haven't noticed.

After 9 - 11 the emotions were running high. Firefighters and policemen/women were the heroes (and they should be) of the country.

I remember commenting to a friend that it wouldn't last a year...people in this country have a very short memory.

After 9/11, the firefighters and police in NYC and Metro DC, and those from other places that volunteered to help (along with the other volunteers) were and remain heroes.

As for the rest of the country, I've seen an alarming shift in local police forces. Officers have begun shaving their heads and dressing in paramilitary gear for routine car patrols. That gear used to be reserved for SWAT teams and search and rescue work. And they've adopted an attituded to match their gear. A safety roadblock checking seatbelts and inspections stickers takes on the air of Checkpoint Charlie.

We do not live in a military state, nor do we live in a police state, but it's beginning to feel that way, both from appearances and the increasingly aggressive manner of many law enforcement officers. They need to dial it back. As one example, you can trust that the chances of a terrorist attack in Bainbridge Township in Geauga County Ohio are infinitessimal. Their officers need to get out of the cargo pants with their trousers bloused in the tops of their jump boots, and get back into a police uniform, with shined shoes, creased trousers and shirt sleeves and start acting like police officers. They are not patrolling Grand Central Terminal, or Reagan National Airport.

No,not unless he was a "Conservative"nnalert! However if he was a 78 year old Conservative nnalert he ought to be allowed to slide.Man thats bad!I didnt see cops beating on people for no reason as this big of a deal, even when it was me,when I was young, but it made me mad enough that I dont have any use for a cop.Now this tasering of an old man fired all of that back up,and more, because he was 78 and on a tractor. Its a good thing Im not their boss. They wouldnt get fired they just wouldnt come back when I was done with them.
