Is it just me?

Went to LeSeuer Co. Pioneer Power show today. Lot of tractors and equip. I prefer to look at tractors in there work clothes rather then an automotive quality repaint. Boy they sure can get those things running nice though. There was an 806 there that someone put an 86 series cab and dash and controls on. He did such a nice job right down to the last detail. Of every thing there I think that impressed me the most.

I know what you mean. Our annual July 4th event in town includes antique tractors, many of which are "over-restored".

I have an H Farmall that's been in the family close to 50 years. It's still healthy mechanically, but the paint's gone. I use it every day and don't want to tie it up long enough to even squirt some paint on it, let alone do a complete restoration.

I've been tempted to put it in an antique tractor show with a sign, "Still works every day, doesn't stand still long enough to look pretty".

Patina is the term used by collectors of furniture and metal objects. Indeed it grossly deminishes the desirability if the piece has been refinished. HMmmm , something to consider before sanding away paint that has been on a tractor over half century. Personaly I feel about the same when it comes to humans if they appear to have 2 coats of primer,3 coats of color with 1 layer of gloss for good measure. Bourbon, folks and tractors can be fully appreciated only if allowed to age gracfuly.
