Swathing millet, new crop for me

Swathed some 30 acres of millet yesterday eve and this a.m. This is the first time I have tried this, will round bale for cow feed. Picture doesn't show it but it is about 30" tall and way too thick. Was double cropped into wheat stubble and oats stubble with my ordinary JD wheat drill. Now if we can get a few days of dry weather so I can get it baled.

We usually have an abundance of doves. Park your body beside a water hole in the evening and watch em come in. We have had above average rainfall this summer and all the crops are doing great. Wanted to cut that millet a little sooner before the heads started to fill but had to wait until the ground got dry enough to roll.

Millet needs a lot of time/good weather to cure properly. It seems to keep well in the swath though. Don't usually see it that weed free (which will help with the curing).

I have raised pearl several times. Like the others said, it takes a while. All I ever had was a disk mower, works alot better with somthing with a conditioner. If I let it get to big (30" ain't big) I would have to knock it around with a tedder a few times to get it to cure. Better get some heavy hay rings or never let them get empty, my cows would tear up rings pushing them around in the mud so they could lick the ground where millet bales were fed.
