How to charge a 6V battery

I have a 6V positive ground system on my Allis C, but I have not yet gotten the generator working. I need to charge my battery, and I am wondering how to hook the charger up. It is a standard older 6V/12V 10 amp plug in the wall device, and I am familiar with using it to charge 12v. I'm not sure if I should clip the neg cable to the battery and ground the positive, or remove the battery from the tractor and clip both clips to their respective posts, or what. If anyone could tell me what to do I would be most grateful.

People always over think the + ground and it is not needed to be thought about. On ALL battery charging you hook it up + to + and - to - never any other way and it does not matter what tractor/truck/car ground is

A is positive ground so------I hook the positive(red) clip to a bolt that I keep clean and polished for hooking the charger to. Then I hook the negative (black) to the negative post on the battary and voila--- the battery charges. Henry

why would you need to remove the cables,???
I use the battery like any other battery, and charge it like any other battery,

With positive ground and the battery cables connected, don't set the charger ON the tractor. Many chargers have the negative terminal grounded to the case and setting that charter on the tractor metal would short the battery through the charger.

Ground does not mean Pos or Neg.

Always hook pos to pos and neg to neg.

Your charging the battery not the tractor!!

I know I'm repeating what others have said but I added a little more!

What makes removing the cables better than leaving them hooked up when charging one battery?

When Charging multiple batteries I agree on unhooking them from each other but not when there is just one battery in a vehicle!

If you unhook the battery you wouldn't be able to use the boost circuit on your charger!!!

If I was charging the 6v, 8v, or 12v on our WDs, I'd do it + to + and - to -. However, if I am charging the 6s or 12s in parallel (or is it serial?) on the 4430 or other large tractors, I'd put + to +, then put the - to the frame. That's what I was taught, anyway. Otherwise the battery gets really, really hot.

Thank you all very much. I charged it in place with the connections still on and the charger on the floor. No excitement or injuries, which is just how I like it. I had no idea the question would elicit so many responses.
