11/16 hex bar shaft

Thought I would check with you guys and see if anyone has a 11/16" hex bar shaft made of CRS or HRS about 15" long. I am trying to repair a old grader and i called a metal supplier and they want well over $100 for a piece.

Fifteen INCHES or fifteen FEET? (The software of this site sometimes does strange things to quotes or apostrophes.)
 
A GOOGLE search for "11/16" steel hex bar" turned up ebay auction # 130266009917, a 36" length for $6.15.

LOTS of other "hits", as well.
 
I called the listing on Ebay and that product has lead in it and it most likely will be to soft. The hex stock is the axles on the gauge wheels located on the back in of the leveler. I will keep looking on google. Thanks for the tip Bob.

A small amount of lead is added to steel so it will machine beautifully. Unless you need high carbon or alloy steel how could you go wrong for 6 bucks? Good luck- joe-
 
Check with local machine shops. Around here with all the factories slowing/shutting down they are pretty slow and many are glad to make/find odd ball farm stuff that they would not have had time to mess with 5 years ago.

Another thing I thought of just as I hit post, do you have a vocational school some where close by that has a machine shop program? If you do many times they will let students make you somthing like this for just the cost of the 2' of 1" square stock they would cut this out of.

That kind of shaft is used in conveyor rollers. The bearings of the roller have hex hole, 11/16 being one size that is used. Where I used to work, there were conveyors 4 to 5 feet wide that moved product around the plant. That was a box making operation, so if you know some one in factory maintenance, see if they can help find some. We had new stock and changed it out some times when worn on ends. Center was ok. Also, steel suppliers should have it. HTH George
