Hi folks,I have a shed roofed with corrugated tin. It has leaks at some of the seams... tried different ways of sealing it. I have come across a deal on some metal roofing and am gonna reroof the shed... can i put the new metal roof over the tin or will I have to remove the existing tin first? Thanks

I saw a fella strip his with 2x4's over the old tin, then put on the new. That was a few years ago and it's still on there.

On our old sheds with the old style corrigated tin we just put down 2x4's or 6's and make darn sure they are secured well then new steel over the top of the new 2x6's. It's a whole lot easier than tearing off. Go to you local lumberyard and get what ever they have for seconds cause you don't need great looking lumber for what you are doing. We have even used 5/4 deck boards with good luck.

I do not disagree with the 2 x 's over the top of the old steel, it will work.

On the other hand if you live close enough, I will tear off the old, for the price of the lumber. I would also enjoy the dollar amount of labor you spend stripping and nailing the perloins to boot.

Just my take on it, I have never since 1964 ever had anyone ask to do it that way. However, like I said it will work.
