Belarus 420A

I came across a Belarus 420A 4-Wheel drive, Diesel. I have no paperwork or manuals for this tractor. I am asking what size battery
will be required for this tractor. Can anyone help?

I know on my 570 and 805 ,it takes 2 large 12 volt batteries to crank the 24v starter. A 570 is about 60hp. You might check on the site external_link, it might be listed there.

420 I worked on couple years ago was set up with one 12 volt battery, negative ground. started just fine, some of the larger watercooled tractors use the two 12 volt for starting.

That's probably a question that nobody here can answer with any certainty...
'Ivan' would have left the factory with a pair of big 6 volt batteries hooked in series. I've seen more than one that had the battery box relocated and one large 12V like an 8D thrown in for good measure.
Given that the electrics on that thing wern't much more advanced than a model T, just about any upgrade ~could~ have been made to cause it to function since it left the factory...

If it hasn't yet been changed over, I would suggest that you do change it over to one large 12V or a pair of Gr31's in parallel and 2/0 cables. That should make it work respectably.

I have one of these monsters. Good luck keeping oil in it. This tractor has two six volt, 900 CCA batteries connected in series. Group size 4, top stud terminals

The later 4 cyl. water cooled diesels such as the 570 and 805 did indeed use 2 12 volts with a parallel switch for the 24 volt start, but the 400 air cooled series tractors are 12 volt start, negative ground.

Thank you sir. You did help me a great deal. I hope to have her running by this weekend. Everything else seems to be in order. Just had to repair a couple of cables where the squirrels had lunch on.
