Nice sort of a guy.50 years old and a long time employee. Nobody knows why he went into the bin. They were still moving out corn when I got home from the farm at 5 o clock. Offered my semi, but they didn't need. That is 25,000 bushel , not 250,000 bushels in a 100,000 bushel bin. Just dumped a few loads in that bin last week. it.

Man what a bad way to go. I will be praying for his family.
I am trying to remember where Lapel is? The story says Columbia City but can't think of a town named Lapel near.

Sat. we are taking a class on grain bin rescue at our local fire department. Another Sat. shot in the rear --8 hrs again.

I'm not so sure on the rescue being the correct word most of the time. As a general rule it is called recovery.

The sad part we all know, it is often avoidable.

Grain elevators and silos are classified by OSHA 29CFR 1910.146 by defintion as "Confined Spaces" that require very special considerations before human entry is considered. C/S rescue is one of the fine arts of the greater discipline of Technical Rescue which also includes: rope, swiftwater, cave, trench, equipment/machinery, structure collapse and the like. There are thousands of examples of people needing technical rescue. It's encouraging to see people training more and more in the technical rescue disciplines.
