Allis Chalmers WD Engine

I have a bad hydraulic seal leak and I am thinking about pulling the engine to repair it. While I am in there, what other repairs should I consider...clutch, engine main seals, etc.?

Where can I find the parts and where is a good manual to help me?

Thanks

No need to pull engine to do anything on hydraulic system on a WD. Are you sure you do not have an engine oil leak?

If hydraulic oil is getting into your engine you probably need a new seal on the hydraulic pump. The old seal probably has worn a groove allowing oil into the engine. You may need a speedi-sleeve to cover the worn surface. Hal

You must be talking hydraulic resavoir. Replace every thing that wears or can start leaking. Agco should have them. Around here Carquest and some of the old time Napa dealers can get them. Speshly if the owner is a tractor man. Some farm supply stores sell manuals. I got my manual from Agco. I am not far from a Carquest that can get every thing you need, or at least used to. If it is pump leaking you do not have to split the tractor.

While it is true all the hydraulic working part are out side the torque tube. Doesn't the engine clutch shaft run thru the hydraulic resevor? In that case you have a back seal and a front seal on the clutch shaft. Wouldn't you have to split the tractor to replace them? Just working from memory here.

Not sure where your leak is at, but the hydralic pump should be able to pull out the side without splitting anything. Pull the drain from the drain tube near the pump, disconnect the hose to the right ram, remove control housing capscrews and nuts and bolts. Partially compress the cam followers and lift it out. Good luck. Bob

The hydraulic reservoir seal is leaking and have been told this is common for an Allis Chalmers WD & you have to pull the engine to replace the seal.

Thanks Sid. Yes, it is the hydraulic reservoir seal. There is a Carquest and Napa in town. Napa guy was a tractor man, but had to quit due to health. His replacement doesn't know didddly, so I won't go back.....thanks

Sid, it has been described to me as the front hydraulic seal(hydraulic rservoir seal.) When I top off the hydraulic reservoir it starts leaking. I can pull a plate off the bottom and look up into the clutch assembly and it is leaking there. So you may be correct about the clutch shaft front and rear seals. Wonder if the clutch rear seal and the hydraulic front seal are the same seal? I have been told is is common for the front hydraulic seal to leak and the engine has to be pulled to replace it. Thanks

El Toro, hydraulic oil is not getting into the engine. I have been told that it is the front hydraulic seal that is leaking. When I top off the hydraulic reservoir it starts leaking. I pull off a plate on the bottom and look up into the clutch assembly and that's where it is leaking. I also was told to use a speedi-sleeve to cover the worn shaft when it replacing this seal. Is this shaft the clutch shaft and therefore this hydraulic front seal is also the clutch rear seal? If this is true, I have to split the tractor to replace the seal, but I was told to replace hydraulic seal I have to pull the engine. Pulling the engine or splitting the tractor?????? Thanks
