Injury on the Farm Yesterday

My nephew and I were bagging up the last of the cob corn to make room for this years. As usual right at the end we got into some mice. I already had gotten 3 or 4 when an unusually large one headed for the door and My nephew went after it. He deliver an almost perfect running stomp as the mouse got to a pile of empty bean seed bags. What neither of us knew was that there was a pitch fork in amongst the bags. One tine right in the foot. He said it felt like it went right to the bone. So whether it's an invitation only or impromptu rat killing Yall be careful.

Puncture wounds can be really bad. I stepped on a rusty wire, as a bare-foot eight year old. The first doctor I saw did not do the right thing and the second one opened it up, days later, after it had become infected and put in a wick so that it could drain. I was laid up for several weeks. Please make sure the kid sees a doctor now.

bout 40 yrs ago i jumped down from a gravel box to land on a board with some 6" nails in it hidden in the grass. One nail went right trough my foot and out trough the top of my boot, pulled right back out when i jump/stumbled to keep my balance. It did'nt get infected and i never seen the doctor either.I Was limping for a while though.

When I was a kid of about 12 [ 1949] we were shelling corn and a "Rat" ran up my pants leg. Long story short. He bit me 5 times before my cousin got my belt loose and dropped my pants. The rat took off running but never made it far. 3, #12 scoops got him in mid air. He bit me in the belly for ones wondering. I spent 3 days in the Hospital for observation and as the rat tested negative for Rabies I was released. Used to make fun of an old man who helped us when he put a big rubber band around each of his pants cuffs. Never did after that expeirience.

Friend was up on a ladder, trimming branches off a tree- lost hold of the chainsaw, it fell on his foot. Chain had already stopped by the time it got to his foot, but one of the sharp "dogs" at the base of the bar went into his foot. He climbed down, said "It doesn't hurt much". Was going to go back up ladder for more, but first took his boot off to assess the damage. I was standing beside him, and could see the bottom of his foot when he lifted it- I pointed out the drop of blood on the bottom of the foot, where the thing had gone all the way through. He decided at that point that maybe he'd had enough for that day. . .

You would an older more mature fellow would know better but I guess we all have our days. Afew years ago i was in the barn saw two nails sticking up from a board so I used my heal to bend one over. Guess what don't do that with tennis shoes. also if you are smart don't do it again.
BUMMER it hurt.
I went in got my shots and the Doctor had a good laugh.

Stepped on a few nails growing up on the farm. Never went to a doctor, but I was current on my tetnus shots and Mom cleaned me up and put a band-aid on.

What a band-aid couldn't fix back in those days.... Even if I wasn't bleeding, they still made me feel better.

As a kid on my grandparents farm in Georgia I stepped on my share of square nails. I always had to soak my foot in coal oil. Don't ever remember getting infected. I skinned the top of the front off my big toes all the time on the road in front of the house and had to do the same thing. It was a granite chip and tar coating and very rough on my toes. The only time I wore shoes was at church and while doing hay. ...Randy
