Anyone ever had it???? Maybe you folks in the Lower UK? We have a chinese resteraunt that has a buffet (I'm a buffet kinda guy) and a grill where you pick out your stuff and have the guy wok it. Anyway, german beef isn't the best (to me anyway). They had some ostrich there that I tried and it was way better than the beef.

I've had it a couple of times--there are several different types of meat on an ostrich, varying considerably in flavor and texture. What I had was very good, but it was also supposed to be one of the best cuts. A butcher buddy had to do one a few years ago after it escaped and was killed by the cops--sure did look funny to come into his shop and see THAT hanging on his hooks! By the way, was "wokking the dog" one of the choices in the restaurant you went to? An old gent I know who fought in Korea had dog several times while there and said it was quite good. I'll take his word for it--can't say it sounds appetizing to me!

Back about 1990 ostriches were the next get rich quick, no one has to raise tobacco, this is going to get every one out of debt, fad around here. There was a family on the other side of the county that spent a bunch of money buy'n 20 of so pairs and they tried to sell every one they knew the offspring because they were all going to get rich. They went around the all the local fairs and gettogethers cooking ostrich. I thought it was about like a hamberger made from half beef/half turkey. I guess thats the only time I have had any of it.

I have had ostrich meat that was made into jerky. A local butcher shop still sells the ostrich jerky, here in Southern Minnesota. I thought it was awesome. It was seasoned meat though. I haven't had ostrich any other way. I would definitely try the meat if I had the opputunity.

Was on a training exercise in Korea before I was actually stationed there and picked up a little on the customs. We were stopped by this farm and an old guy had a dog hanging by it's neck kicking and screaming while he beat it and was burning it with a torch. Just about got the war rejuvinated if it hadn't been for our Korean escorts stopping a mob of country boys. They said they tortured them because the adrenaline made the meat sweeter. Meanwhile, I think they have outlawed eating dog.

I went to a fair in Colo in 91 and big bsr was trying to sell them as it was going to replace beef. I listened to him and acted srt of interested as he was telling me the meat was going to just take over. Wonder how much money he lost.

It's very good. It was being carved right off the bird on a massive platter. It must have weighed 200lbs dressed. Each drumstick would feed a family of five for two weeks.

Several years ago a guy brought some ground Ostrich into the firehouse for dinner. The cook was making burgers and the meat inside never got brown, it stayed red. They tasted okay, but everyone agreed they just didn't feel good after they ate it. No one was sick, just didn't feel right. No more for me, thanks!

I eat emu from a local farner somewhat often, a lot like beef but with zero grease. I have heard that ostrich is similar.

makes you wonder why we bothered to save them from the North Koreans, when they have customs like that.....

My brother came across an escaped emu on the road once. Tried to chase it back into the farm yard, and it ended up chasing him down the road back to his car. The guy who owned it said they can inflict a bit of damage with their claws.
