Help! I have a 1940's(?) case tractor. Starts great and runs for about five minutes and then sputters and dies. Rest for about three minutes and it stars right up and does it again. Have adjusted idle, put gas cleaner in. Any ideas??

Tried the gas cap-no go. Still sputtering Was so hoping it would be something that simple. Thank-You though

You could have something in the gas tank that gets sucked into the outlet & plugs the hole. Then when it dies it quits sucking & what ever was plugging the line floats back to the top of the gas & then when you restart it it then gets sucked back down to the line plugging it again. Carry a little ether with you & when it starts to die give it a little wiff & see if it stays running. That will tell you if it is gas related. Gerald

1. Take the fuel line loose and see what flow you have from the tank.
2. See if you have flow from the drain at the Carb.

i just had the same problem with my ih 484 and i tried everything the only thing that worked was takeing the fuel line loose and blowing air into the tank causing whatever is plugging the hole to blow away this should work

Im having the exact same problem on my mccormack A Went through the head and rebuilt everything including the carb the only thing thats left and thats the coil after talking to the experts im converting the ignition to a external coil(mine had a magneto ignition)and i think thats where your problem lies!!
hope this helps Mark
