most years I usually only use my 4020 for cuttin and bailin. Well this year with all the hay gettin washed and june before i could plant corn didnt have time to be switchn around tractor and implements so I decided to take the loader off my 1066 and put it on the conditioner took my bushhog off the 806 and had it on the rake since every time I cut I ended up rakin it cuz it rained. I know to much tractor for the rake but thats the smallest one I got and I put my 4020 on the bailer. Well my 1066 pto clutch pack went bad so I stuck the 806 on my conditioner wouldnt you kno darn remain seals leakin so Im back to the 4020 doin great till yesterday got it out to do a little bush hogin cuz Im dun with hay and the darn radiator needs fixed. Either All my old tractor are givin up or I got gremlins in the barn.

With old equipment comes some maintenance costs... it is inevitable. That's why God made winter...

If the maintainance you perform on your machines is no better than your childish writing and spelling, I can see why you are having problems.

Are you as big of a semi-literate oaf in real life, as your 'home-spun' hillbilly spelling would indicate?

Ya Im glad I have a good wood burner in my shop so I can make repairs. Im startin to think I need a bigger shop tho. If I didnt love my old tractors so much Id trade them in on new but I know I wouldnt be happy.

Have to weigh yearly maintenance costs and labor vs yearly maintenance costs + labor + monthly payment to the bank.... vs how much you're bringing in from commodity and other sales... pretty easy to see if it'll pencil...

actually I am very strict on my maintainance on my equipment. When I spend more on a peace of equipment than what your house prolly cost I like to take care of it. So you know I am very literate I just am not very good at typing. Im sorry i cant be a pencil pushing jerk like you. If you dont have anything better to do than be a royal jerk and think you are so much better than me than I feel sorry for you. Its because of people like you we have lost a lot of good people on this forum who like to share there knowledge and farming experiences. so if it makes you feel better to think you are better than me and need to be a self centered richous city boy cry baby I really feel sorry for you and Im wonderen if your up here than who is runnin hell

Perhaps you should change "Silver" to "Sanctimonious", for the sake of Truth in Advertising. The "Pig" part is OK, though.

If farming was limited to those with good spelling and grammar, we'd all be getting pretty hungry.

Our main farm tractors we really try to replace every 5 years or so because of depreciation and we really cant affford to be broke down in the fields. I do all my own mechanic work on my older stuff. These new tractors are gettin like cars wear you have to call the dealer to come out. I know I make enough off hay to justify a new tractor I just really like my old ones and so I have to expect these things just hate they all gave out at once.lol

Hey Nick, How about lookin at it this way? You're in good shape because your paid-for tractors got you through hay time once again, and now you get to spend quality time in the shop with them.

Bet there's a lot of folks that have had days when it all seems to hit the fan.

We've had a couple of real long days putting up hay when a piece of equipment fails.

Since all of our JD tractors are 50-70 years old, there is always maintenance that needs to be done on at least one of them.

Right now we have two at the mechanic's shop and two more that need to go for repairs.

What kind of variety hay are you making?

Well mostly Im a corn soybeans and very little wheat farmer. I do timothy and fescue mostly. Thats what most the horse folks like around here is timothy and I still mostly square everything because most of them dont have tractors for handlin the big rolls and dont like feedin there equine that much hay at once. I square and roll fescue.

I like how you look at that. Looks like I got my work cut out this winter between the hayin fleet and my regular farm tractors to fix and what ever we break this fall. Im gonna have to get more help.lol

yea my old tractors are about to drive me crazy.
i keep getting diesel fuel in crank case of 730.
alternator is bad on cockshutt 50.
hey! my massey 333 (doesn't have any major problems that i know about) gosh i like that tractor

Havent really had any problems to speak of for last two hay seasons so guess I was do for some. Just hate they all gave out at once. Still think I have a gremlin runnin around in my barn with a wrench
