Ford 9n Cooling Problem

I have a Ford 9n that had a cooling problem which I thought was cause by a bad head gasket. I changed the head gasket recently, it did look bad but the problem basically remains. The antifreeze foams, gets really hot and comes out. I don't see any circulation of the antifreeze. Should I see it actually flowing when I look into to the opening? Could this all be from a bad waterpump?

Did you check to see if there's a defective thermostat installed in the upper radiator hose?

It's RARE for a waterpump to go "bad' but every now and then somebody has one that has either had it's impeller rust away or possibly fall off. It could be a clogged-up radiator, as well,.==.

Keith,

I would suggest that you post this on the 9N discussion board. Many great minds at work there and they will have you back in the seat in no time.

Best of luck

Are you filling it too full. You are supposed to fill only enough to cover the fins when COLD. Then when it warms up it will not overflow.

I'd lean toward a plugged radiator.Easy to check.

Remove both hoses, cap off or plug upper radiator neck with rag,and stick a garden hose in filler neck. The radiator fins should keep up with a pretty good water flow.If it just dribbles out the lower neck,it's plugged.

check if the thermostat is not in backward by accident spring shuld be down or take the thrrmo out to test and see if it runs cooler and see the flow

There are a number of thing that could be wrong. #1 you are filling it to full. #2 a bad thermostat. #3 A clogged cooling system. #4 a loose fan belt. #5 a bad water pump. #6 way out of time. Now with all that said I'll almost bet your cooling system is clogged or your just plain over filling it. So I would Drain it out, then fill with vinegar and run it till good and warm then drain and flush with water and see if that helps
