multi power MF135

I have a MF 135 with multi power that does not work. Was working ok then got to where it quit working after engine and fluid got to operating temp, sometimes as long as I did not take it out of hi multi power it worked ok. Now no multi power at all. I have been told possible filter stopped up, but no one can tell me where the filter is located, not even the dealer, could it be the filter or possible fluid change, how hard is it to replce the unit, can it be done with out a lot of special tools, I have a mechanical back ground

You need a parts catalog and a shop manual. The I&T manual shows the multipower pump and filter without identifying the parts. The MF-135 parts catalog shows the filter on a couple pump options. The multipower hydraulic uses its own pump and filter mounted on top the regular pump.

So far as I know the more common multipower problems are in the linkage from the control on the dash, not moving the rod on the bell housing connected to the valve far enough. Its not hard for that rod to have slipped or the linkage to have worn and not hard to loosen the clamp and make it pull the rod a bit more.

Beyond that multipower problems tend to be mechanical, I think, though I believe the multipower valve (in the back of the bell housing) can leak (o-ring seals) and contribute a lot to the oil dripping from the bell housing or a hose to the valve can go bad. The multipower clutch itself has been known to fail and fixes are said to be a bit expensive with parts hard to get, but still are practical.

It may be very important to know where the tractor was made and find the books that apply to it. I bought a CD on line from England and it doesn't match my US MF-135 at all. I don't have the US shop manual, but I do have the US parts manual and the I&T manual that gives instructions on making sure the valve rod is moved the right amount.

Had one in the shop the other day with same symptoms. Turned out to be dirty oil and a plugged filter. Actually it is not a filter but a reusable strainer that can be removed, cleaned and replaced. The easiest way to get to it is remove the lift cover. It can be removed from the left side access plate by removing the running board and the cover, but I prefer to remove the lift cover and clean everything out while inside. The strainer is about the size of a pack of cigarettes and sits right behind the main hydraulic pump strainer.Hope this helps.

To get to the filter remove the round plate that your pto lever is mounted to, you will need to drain the oil out of the transmission. The filter is at the bottom of the transmission on the back of the pump, but can be removed though the pto cover. Low range is a overrun clutch, high is just a clutch pack. Not that hard to work on ,but a manual is highly recommened Rickey

I removed the transmission out of a 135 and took it apart, removed the multi , power went through a procedure to bolt the M/P clutch pack together put it back ,and it worker great. But it was a lot of work.

It's not that hard to clean the filter. You will probably find that it is clogged with a fine material. That unfortunately is the linings off the clutch. Give it a try, but you may be up for a multipower clutch overhaul. Again not that hard on one of those great little tractors.
Cheers,
Rex

thank for the info, I have worked on a lots of truck trans, but not a tractors, should not be much fifferent just more to remove.

Thanks Rex, I did not think my problem would go world wide, Thanks again for the info from the down under.

Thank for the info. I will try going through the pto cover first, If I cannot get to the filter, I will go through the top.

Thanks for the info I replaced the clutch recently and know the linkage is good, and did not see signs of leakage at valve, will try cleanig the filter first, if I still have a problem I will try to rebuild the unit,
