I'm taking my sweet time rebuilding a 159 c.i. gas Case tractor slow, deliberate, cautious, clean. First I stumble upon a broke valve rotator only $40 each. So I'll just work on the bottom end, crank goes in really sweet all is well. Pistons, rings and rods all is well------until the last rod bolt wouldn't torque above 40 lbs. and it was positively not cross threaded on install. Had to cut the nut nearly off to release for removal. When I picked up the block at the machine shop I asked about the lack of any locking devices on rod bolt and he sold me some new locking style nuts, should've just kept my mouth shut. So now I'm looking for rod bolts only $36 EACH at Messicks (two required)
I recall before ever owning a tractor being told by an old timer to never buy a ford flathead and stick with allis chalmers 'cause parts are easy to get.
Let see 15yrs running an allis B and mowing pretty hard with a 6' woods deck. One set of points, cap, plug wires and rotor, two sets of spark plugs, oil, gas and grease. What was the old timer talking about I haven't really needed any parts? Oops I forgot about replacing the entire rocker shaft assembly for $20 and adjusting the valves twice.
