Foot Race With Mother Nature

Yeah,

I knew it was gonna be wet, but we got that last load of wheat threshed before the rains hit and hauled 'er in to the elevator last night.

I haul 45 miles to the railhead to dodge the trucking dock of the smaller elevators.

Crossed the scale at 36,000 lbs and 400 of it was water. :>(

Wife says I need a semi. Silly girl, she comes from the city, ya know. :>)

Good feeling, isn't it. Assuming that green strip in the background is alfalfa, looks like your second cutting of hay is coming along fine.

Fer sure,

Hay to haul, hay to cut, summer fallow to go over and then back to planting wheat in September. Oh, and let's not forget that manure that needs spreading. :>(

'Round and round we go. :>)

Yeah, at least the wheat is in the bin where the hail can't get at it. :>)

When I farmed, I had only a mile and a half to the elevator, but there was a steel bridge tagged 14 ton along the way.

I had two gravity wagons I pulled together with a D19 and could scale close to 700 bushels. I'd cross that bridge grossing 46,000 to 48,000 pounds. The bridge held, but by rights I should have been in the Blue River.

The bridge has since been replaced with a new pre-stressed concrete one. Semis go over it now. I also once crossed the old one with a combine. I think I had about an inch on each end of the header.

Allan, I sort of lost track of the 2nd Gleaner you had. If that is the one in the picture, I.d sure like to see a pictue of the finished product.

The old F2 is still sitting in the yard and not done yet.

Got all the parts, just gotta throw 'er back together. All I need is time. :>)

Just love these old things. Not the fastest harvester in the world, but we only spent a gallon of diesel an acre and one $21 belt on the year.

Yeah, I know. I'm cheap. :>)

I like that, when some one says they say, ( All I need is time ) when all their doing is spending time on this forum, ya think they could think about time clicking and clacking...

Go, Allan is likely one of the most productive, ambitious, self motivated, operational people on this forum. (or in NE). He honors us with his wisdom, wit, and iron-y. Be a positive person or be elsewhere. Jim

Think yer right, Zeke.

I have a real bad problem with that. Especially between the hours of 3am and 4:30am before it gets light outside.

Just can't seem to get motivated anymore. Guess I'm getting old.

Your analysis of the success of the farming profession is indicative of your depth of perception. Do you find food in the grocery? is it from the Moon? The farming industry is a shining jewel in the US. Jim
