water in gas

This was in lawn mower, chain saw, and pressure washer, but they're on the farm.

Riding lawn mower didn't want to start, found water in gas, in fact when pouring gas in tank the strainer in funnel became clogged up. Second time for water in gas in that mower. Gas was under shed with mower, but I thought maybe rain had blown in and got in around spout in old 5 gallon bucket I use for fuel. Talked with someone and they had same trouble in pressure washer and chain saw. Said water came from ethanol in gas. Went to gas station with no ethanol is gas and got more gas, also remembered someone on here recommending Sea Foam, so got some to put in lawn mower tanks, and may put rest in gas truck that does a lot of sitting.

Is this the best way to go?

Somebody is messing with you or you don't have tightly sealed gas jugs.

If the gas is in a good jug, ethanol will have NOTHING to do with there being THAT much water in the gas.

Ethanol should never have water in it. Ethanol has a alcohol base & by law has a max of up to 10% in it. There is never a need to use HEET or any other gas line anti freeze with ethanol. But there is no guarentee that you got Ethanol even though it came out of a Ethanol pump. Try buying gas from a differant supplier. Gerald

Most likely the place where you bought the gas is not paying attention to the underground storage tanks. In other words, the water was already in the gas when you bought it. It has nothing to do with ethanol, but everything to do with where you bought it.

Ethanol absorbs gas and takes it right thru the system same as heet does.

There is no way the water came from the ethanol.

Here in the midwest where we have been using ethanol since the mid 70's we never have water in the gas.

You got some bad infromation there KEH.

Hey, thanks for replies, guys. I bought new gas, as I said, and it ran fine this afternoon. I also changed gas cans and am now using a metal one with the spring loaded cap. I can see the old can leaking around the spout and maybe rain blowing in. However, the other guys that had water in gas problems don't get their gas from the same place. Don't know about their gas storage. If there was any water remaining in my lawnmower the Sea Foam has had time to get it out in the last two hours of mowing.
