M Farmall Value

Looking for opinions on value of a tractor as I want to be fair with a potential seller. Happened to run across an M Farmall that has been sitting in an unused three sided cattle shed for the past 15 years or so. Upon closer looking, it has an aftermarket wide front (Looks like it says Norden? on it), an aftermarket three point hitch that lifts with a single cylinder and is yellow in color, and an aftermarket seat of some kind that is square and has a cushion on it. The tires are %90 and holding air but I don't know how weather checked they may be on the bottom. The gas tank has about 3 inches of sludge in the bottom. Rear axle seals are leaking a fair amount of oil, paint is very poor, and the motor is stuck tight.
Mother/son that own it are debating on selling it as is or paying someone to fix it up first and then sell it. Thinking I may throw out an offer if I can afford what it is actually worth. Again, just looking to be fair to both sides.

Either you or the current owners will be upside down value wise the minute you start spending money on it. It needs to be a Louisville SM or a SMTA before you begin to come out on it. Now if money is no object and you need a project then it does not matter what you pay for it or the repairs.

They are not gonna make money by fixing it up.It really is not worth more than what someone who wants a project will pay. With the motor locked it is close to its weight in scap metal value. Its not all stock either. It may be worth more to some kind of ebay parts seller but my guess is two hundred bucks.

I have a 400 here that I paid $400 for at an auction. Old loader, Speeco wide front, P.S. and good 13.6 tires and two sets of wheel weights. I think I will be able to get $400 for it in scrap after I take $400 in parts off it for me and sell $500 in parts to others who need them.
I was hoping that the motor would free up by using ATF but it has been two weeks and two cyclinders have still been holding tight. If I can get it running I would sell it as a tractor.
The WFE might be worth $400 or more and the 3pt has be be worth a few hundred also. The tractor must weight 3 ton and if scrap is $150 a ton, you could buy it for anywhere from $450 to $1000. If you get it running you could sell it for about $1200 to $1800. Fair is what you decide works for you.

I would say as it sits maybe $400-$500. No way are they going to make any money fixing it up, running and in decent condition they are worth $2000-$2500, no more. Anyone who wants to fix it up is going to sink more into it than that. It's a project for someone looking to fix up an old tractor.

Thanks for the advice guys. I had been thinking $600, maybe $700 if it would make them happy, but surely no more. Sounds like if they accepted my offer of $600 that would be pretty fair.

I've been to more than one auction where a decent running M wouldn't bring 1500,sometimes less.Shame, great tractors, depends on the area, too.Like people have said so far, from what that one needs, you could sink some money in it real quick.Plus there is always the unknown, bad crank or block, bull gear, etc.
