I officially hate prosso millet

For the drought my corn is doing quite well, but the prosso millet is crazy out there, wonder how good my yeilds would have been with out that 'weed' out there. Right now the people that owned it before me say it's the most impressive corn they have ever seen here since they bought the land in '81. Dont really want to do it,m but I guess I am gonna have to go RR. I havent found a LL variety that will perform as good in my dry soils. I need a very drought tolerant hybrid. 85-95 day. Temped to hire some mexicans and have them hit tyhe rows with the wifes little 22" push lawnmower. Just kidding, that would take quit some time and end up in some toe stubs.

Maybe a weed whacker instead? The garden got so bad one year that I "cultivated" that with the whacker.

Usually starts near the driveway, being brought in from a previous field by tillage equipment. Soon is all over the field. You could give it a late treatment with a highboy and drop nozzles, even using Gramoxone. Might lose some lower leaves on the corn

I am pretty screwd on applying anything I think. Most corn is 7' or more, except for a small area that the corn was stunted a bit and didnt canopy at all. Growing cobs but is short almost the same height as the millet. Gonna skip that area with the combine and just knock it all down and round bale it in the fall, or maybe chop it. I'll have to look into them other herbicides mentioned. I really would rather avoid the RR corn, will be doing RR beans next year on this ground, but I still have to have a plan for the corn feilds next year.

Glad to hear you are not over using RR. So many folks have over used its capabilities. We have all sorts of Round up resistant weeds down south.

All sorts of things will help you with your millet. Preemergence control should help you. Try some Degree Xtra or Harness Xtra next time you plant corn. If after a few weeks you have some grasses apply some steadfast with crop oil and you can even apply some Callisto with a pint of extra atrizine for more residual control in the same tank mixture.

I"ve been using Harness at half rate in the spring, applied with the dry fertilizer with the air flow. Keeps the early grasses down. PM is not a problem anymore.
