Dodge Dually vs Mits Car

Was stopping at a red light today, when I felt a big THUD at the back of my truck.. Got out to see a midsize Mitsubishi car with the grill pushed back a foot, and the hood peeled up like a sardine can. Poor young girl was freaking out crying and saying she was sorry.. Calmed her down and made sure she and 2 passengers were not hurt. I am really glad that I did not have a hitch in the reciever.. The way her car slid under my bumper sort of spread the impact out. That was what the State Trooper said. The only damage I can find on my truck is the trailer light receptacle is broken.. Last wreck I was in was in 1976, so I guess I am lucky.

I'd have her insurance replace the hitch, no way to tell if there's any cracks in a weld somewhere, or a partially sheared bolt. Just to be on the safe side. Glad everyone is ok.

Since there were others with her, then the driver was probably not texting or talking on the cell phone. Although she could have been texting or calling one of the girls in the back seat!

I agree, have the hitch replaced. That kinda thud could have partially sheared the bolts forwards

I was thinking that I might get her insurance co to take my reciever frame off and get it Magnafluxed, and re- installed with new fasteners. I do not want to take advantage of the Ins Co.. but I do want to make sure my hitch is safe to use again.

Sorry to here that but do not dismiss it as a week or month from now you could find you have a back problem. Does not take much to mess up your back and it can take weeks to feel it. Ya I know I hate to say it but BTDT and found out the hard way and sure wish I had done things different when I got my back hurt but then I also might have a problem buying parts LOL

Old is right. Watch the neck for awhile. The neck doesn't like sudden movements.

Sister-in-law was rear ended in her van. She got out, felt fine and exchanged names, and drove away. The next day she was in the hospital with a sore neck and spent the next six months in a neck immobilizer. Jim

For the cost of magnafluxing and all that should just about buy a new one.

The other part is, I guess, how hard did you get hit? A few years ago I was hit by anoher driver who was rear ended and she was stopped too close behind my truck. I had my receiver in and it was right square in the middle of her liscense plate. Was barely a tap on my truck, her car took the brunt of it.

1 1/2 years ago I was backing my small trailer into the driveway with the truck and a high school girl hit it with her Mustang. Bent the tongue on the trailer, smached about the whole front of her car, and smashed the back of the trailer. Hitch stayed on the truck. It's a class 5 hitch mounted on my 88 F150, so yes it's overkill but it's held up great.

My old F350 with a pintle receiver hitch was rear ended by an economy car.The car was totaled but fortunately the driver was ok.Didn"t do much to the truck other than apply some paint over the dirt on the bumper.
