Well, Of Course. Why Not?

Rats!

Just found out that I get to put a liner in the grain tank on my combine before harvest starts.

Trying to decide if I should spend the money on a couple dozen pop-rivets or just go into debt on a new combine.

Hey! Wait a derned minute! Seem to recall that I've been down this road before; guess I'll opt to go with the rivets this time. :>)

Pop rivets are allot cheaper than a new machine !! Around here, they are known as the "Great Silver Seeders"

Allan, you've probably already thought of this, but find some old auger tubing the right size, slit it in two and curl it under the auger for the whole length of the grain tank. Pop rivets or self tapping screws finish the job. I've tried welding the liner in but usually smoke starts drifting out of the combine from some unaccessible spot under the grain tank. That's when you start feeling your heart thumping in your forehead.

Come to think of it, aren't some of those older Gleaners held together with pop rivets in some spots? I think I remember seeing them on the top of my neighbor's L2. Jim

HEY,I've found something even better! Ever work with that Fiberglass cloth material? You cut some sheets to fit,mix up the resin, put it on with a paint brush. I patched up the cleanout doors on the bottoms of the grainlegs of my Oliver 7300 with it last year. Stuff hardens like steel. I even patched up a cab corner and rocker panel on my pickup with it last fall. That stuff's great. Got it at the hardware store. Patches holes a whole lot bigger than Bondo will and dries harder too.

Allan Isn't that combine the one you bought new, and found it again. That thing is part of the family. Invest in some rivets. Stan

I'm gonna suggest you go to Nashville and stay in one of those air conditioned studios.

Who knows maybe you can turn the farm into a tourist attraction with camping and all.

You are almost as good looking as Willy Nelson and he has made it three times.

Your guitar looks better too.~~~LOL

Splitting an auger tube won"t work in a Gleaner because the bin bottom is very shallow- just need a minor bend in some flat sheet metal. Rivets- yes...all the sheet metal on the back of the combine is riveted to the steel framework. I had a panel come loose on the F2 years ago- had to take out a walker to get inside and reattach it.

At least you don't have the problem my neighbor is facing. He was getting his combine ready to go. Engine was running. He went into the shed and heard a loud bang and silence. Came out and a connecting rod with the wrist pin from one piston was laying on the open engine cover. At least it didn't let go in the middle of harvest and in the middle of a field with a full tank and rain threatening.
