Importing a tractor

Ive imported quite a few vehicles from the US into Canada before and now Im debating on picking up a tractor in the US and bringing it back. Can somebody tell me what has to be done to bring an atique tractor into Canada

Jamie

If it was built in North America all you do is stop at the border and pay the tax, we have brought several in from the states.

Jamie,I believe you must notify the authorities at the U.S. border crossing at least 48 hrs. in advance before you export the tractor from the U.S.Probably worth a call to the crossing you intend to use.The will require a copy of invoice with serial number etc.Failure to observe this requirement will result in stiff fine to carrier.Again, worth the call as these regs. change frequently.Good Luck.

Not as simple as it used to be. I recently brought a JD 2750 (not antique, but not new) in through the port at Derby Line Vt. was told by one agent I'd need a broker, by another that I wouldn't and by one that it was ok because it was a North American tractor and by another that it would need to pay duty because it was made in Germany. I also learned that the trucker had to have filed an electronic manifest an hour in advance of hitting the border or they could fine him $5000. All in the name of homeland security! I decided that I'd better get some help and had the tractor picked up by a dealer who regularly imports manure handling equipment made in Canada. It cost more, but it got through with no hassle. A far cry from when I bought a used baler in Quebec and pulled it home behind my pickup and only had to show the bill of sale and my farm name
