NB I-75 at 9 mile in Detroit, Mich. CLOSED!!

FYI to All.
NB and SB I-75 at 9 mile rd. in Detroit Michigan is CLOSED till further notice.
Due to a gasoline tanker accident which caused the tanker to catch fire under the bridge.
The heat of the fire caused the span over NB to collapse, and severly weakened the span over SB.
Early estimates are minimum 2 weeks to 1 month till it reopens.
If traveling this way seek alternate route.
SB I-75 to I-696 to I-275 to I-75
NB I-75 to I-96 to I-275 to I-696 to I-75

Saw that on the news.

That is one busy area of interstate.

Glad I don't have to go through that area any more.

Made the news around here big time, nust have been one heckava confligration.... Said a car was goin too fast, caused the collision. Wonder who's insurance company going to get the honors on that. Car, Truck, Fuel, New bridge! Gonna cost a pretty penny. State waiting on contracts on crane service to lift the remains of the bridge.

I wonder if the driver was on the sauce?

I saw the pictures on the news. I am glad I dont have to go that far south on I-75

That is just 1 mile north of Detroit. Really going to be a pain getting around it, that is the main North/south artery in the state. If it had dropped the 8 mile bridge, that would have really been something, that thing is a triple decker!!

Yeah,
Especially after they just reopened I-75 at the Ambassador Bridge for the "Gateway project".
That bridge was just rehabed 1.5 years ago, consisted of steel beam repairs, deck repairs and full coating of structure. Don't ask how much that cost.
Kicker #2 Truckers ins. co. is only good for $1 million, structure replacement will be much more.

Yes, that's my normal route to and from work every day.

Supposedly the crash was started by a 27-year-old who had only had his license since May. He was allegedly speeding, crashed into a tractor-trailer fuel tanker. The tanker lost his trailer and also took out a second tractor-trailer. Miraculously, nobody was killed. News reports showed cars continuing to drive across the overpass with smoke billowing up from the fire below!

I would hate to be the guy that caused the wreck right now. Somehow I don't think his liability insurance will cover a brand-new bridge. Michigan no-fault insurance means he won't have to pay for the two totalled semis, though.

Anyone who has driven that stretch of I-75 knows about the infamous nine-mile curve. Very easy place to lose control if you're driving typical Michigan speeds (85 mph, except in school zones, when drivers slow down to 55). Not a good place to be speeding when your sharing the road with other vehicles, let alone a fuel tanker.

I think the tanker's insurance would have a solid case if they refuse to pay. There's no evidence the tanker was at fault However, they'll probably pay whatever the coverage is to avoid going to court.

I guess the guy is an Iranian, He should be deported. (I dont think he is a US citizen, at least the news made it look like he wasnt)

Even though the tanker is not at fault. Ins for tanker or car is usually only good up to $1 million, unless they have a special policy.
If he caused it deport the SOB.
probabally texting thru the 8 mile curve.
