OT - Blindfolds on Horses?

Recently a person driving by stopped in to ask why we had our horses all 'blindfolded'. I actually had to let him look through one of the fly masks so he could 'see' for himself that these horses have complete vision while wearing their fly mask. It sometimes requires patience when dealing with city folk.

Have a great day, Starr

Tell them you run a retirement ranch for troubled horses. Only way to keep them from freaking out and hurting themselves is blindfold them. Only way to let em enjoy the fresh air.

Nice horses though.

Good One... I will remember that response the next time some "concerned citizen" inquires about my blindfolded horses...

Thanks, s

City folks can be a hoot. When I was in college I worked on a farm that was about 3 miles from KY lake and raised fire cured tobacco. We would have up to 3 people stop a day to tell us all our barns were on fire in the fall. Boss would just tell them not to call 911, he had them all insured and didn't want he fires put out.

Sister-in-law from the city asked me the same question- I told her them rascals were apparently fixin' to rob the liquor store again.

"City folks can be a hoot."

Isn't that the truth though. Had some cousins visiting Kansas from New York dig up giant dandelions to take home with them. Thought they were pretty in the bloom stage, hadn't seen them in seed stage. I'm sure their neighbors really appreciated their actions.

You know, someday I want to go to the city peoples "ranchette's" and start making a major pain of my self asking stupid questions about things that are none of my business. Wonder if they'd get the message?

On the other side though.. If you are selling something, you have to treat everyone as a potential/future customer..... Hard sometimes. Had a girl show up 3 years ago and just hang around the pastures (all have public right of ways passing them). Finally decided to ask her if she was OK and she just said the horses were pretty. Asked a bunch of what & why's over the next couple of months and geberally got on our nerves. Then bought a foal from us each of the next two years.

Thats great!!!!

Some lawn care joint made a great bit of money off that. Around here they charge about a $100 to spray a small yard with 2-4D. Who knows what they would charge there!

I confess that I didn't know what the "blindfolds" were the first time I saw them a few years back. Never been a horse person; we never had horses when I was growing up. I don't recall seeing these fly masks out west, only in Michigan.

Curious or not, I wouldn't bother someone by asking them about something like that.
