Clutch noise?

I was on the road today driving the tractor and bushhog to a job and I noticed a noise coming from the clutch area. When I engaged the clutch, the noise disappeared, but when engaged again the noise returned. It sounds like a bearing that is noisy. So, does a throwout bearing make a noise if it is bad? Are there any other bearings around a clutch? Maybe I can just ignore it?
Any ideas?
Thanks

While you are in there don't forget your pilot bearing. It also only is in play when the clutch is disengaged.

This fits my noise that was present when travelling ( disengaged clutch). Everything else about the clutch is operating fine, even the free play is good.
I guess a throwout bearing replacement basically means a clutch job, right?

What it this on?? It maybe as simple as you need to grease the throw out bearing. A good number of tractors have places to grease those bearing and it not greased they will in fact start making a lot of noise. Plus you can also make one last a lot longer if you keep it greased up

The T/O bearing (depending on the tractor) may be riding on a clutch release arm that is out of adjustment. This causes the bearing to touch the single wear tip, and wobble making noise. When pushed in, the bearing uses all the tips, making no noise. A worn disk with some parts missing will also give this symptom. Check the Freeplay, and increase it just a little. If it goes away, I would look toward the finger adjustment, or the disk. A worn pressure plate pivot will also cause the misalignment of the tips. JimN

Maybe my thinking is wrong but a clutch is engaged when traveling or against the fly wheel. A bad throw out bearing will make a noise when engaged if there is no free travel as well as when the clutch is desengaged. It can get bad enough it will rattle all the time in or out. When I have had pilot bearing or bushing make sound was when traveling. As Old said maybe it just needs greased. "I guess a throwout bearing replacement basically means a clutch job, right?" You have to tear apart just like you would do for a clutch job.

A throwout bearing will make noise with your foot off the clutch, because it is travelling lightly on the pressure plate fingers.
When you push in the clutch they will shut up because of the force applied against the rollers in the bearing. It will last for awhile, but you'll be changing it sooner or later.

A bad TO bearing can go right thru the fingers of a diaphragm pressure plate. You may get away with just a new bearing. If you ignore it you will need a new pressure plate.
